Weekend Mailbag: Jim Wyatt Answers Questions From Titans Fans Leading Up to the NFL Draft

mailborgonzi

NASHVILLE – We're now less than a week away from the NFL Draft.

In some ways, it's hard to believe.

But also: It's about time.

Let's not waste any more time here and get going with some final questions before Thursday.

Here's the link to submit questions: CLICK HERE.

Jon Edgington Guthrie Center, Iowa
Question: Not much of a question, but with the draft a week out, I've got a not happening hypothetical situation I'd like your thoughts on…… To start with the obvious! Titans draft Cam Ward at #1 Then it gets a little crazy! We've talked all offseason about getting cheaper, younger, building through the draft, ect. So with that in mind what about this next-
Titans trade big Jeff to the Patriots for pick #4 which in this scenario: Hunter goes to Cleveland and Sanders to the Giants. Landing is basically Abdul Carter for Simmons. Vrabel likes his guys and gets a leader for their locker room. We get the things mentioned above not to mention another 30mil in cap space next offseason. Our D line would take a hit. No replacing Simmons. But with Sweat in the middle, day on one side and dremont/day 2/3 rookie I think we could hold up for a year until we can lock in on finding better options.
Titans trade pick #35 and will Levis to the Steelers for pick #21 and a 4th rounder. Steelers get a big qb with the arm ect that they like. With us Using pick 21 on tet McMillan, who falls a little with the I don't watch film talk. Which with cams leadership and dedication to said film would be a great pairing to get him in that film room working. Would be our ideal tee Higgins type in the Callahan offense.
Downfall to all this is we wouldn't have a pick on day 2 at all. However we'd have 3 impact rookies already not to mention then strapped with 7 to picks on day 3 to build depth or move into day 2. If fits getting YOUNGER, CHEEPER, AND BUILDING THROUGH THE DRAFT. Also if cam hits which is hopefully the case. We would be ready to go cap wise ect heading into next off season.
Crazy but who thought we'd trade AJ brown…… hopefully this one works out better and goes in our favor. 👍

Jim: Well, Jon, I give you credit for thinking outside the box. Not sure I should endorse any of these moves, and not sure your compensation matches up. But, hey, it's at least fun to think about different scenarios. I'll give you an A for effort.

Beau Siddens from Covington, Indiana
Question: Hey Jim....I'm beyond excited for the draft and the new season. Man do I miss football! I thought I'd chime in one more time. Does the leadership and/or players read or give you feedback on your mailbag?
Fellow fans,
With the draft nearing, I hope and pray we are patient. There will be a lot of changes in the next few months. Players coming and going. We have to trust the leaders and remember that we are not them. They have a huge responsibility right now and very few of us have the capability to do what they are doing, have been doing and will do.
Do me a favor before the draft. Watch Levis' 2024 lowlight reel (about 3 min), then watch his 2024 highlight reel (about 20 min and he didnt play a full season). Give him a chance with a good O line (which has been constructed) and T. Hunter (which is my vote at #1)....let him build some confidence, and we're cookin again. Ward is good, don't get me wrong, but we will be starting over if we draft him, be prepared either way. Here's to the 2025 season 🍺...TITAN UP...Let's Go!!! Thank you for what you do Jim. Appreciate ya.

Jim: Hey Beau. I can't imagine the GM is spending any time reading the mailbag, I feel pretty certain about that. I haven't seen him in over a week, told he's been in the draft room all day. We'll know a lot more about Will's future by this time next week.

Tom Gould from Spokane, Washington
Question: Hi Jim. I always hear this narrative with the 1 overall pick. "Draft a quarterback that can win you a Superbowl". I don't believe in that. Sure you can catch lightning in a bottle, but more often than not you sit at the bottom cycling 1st round QBs out over 2 to 3 years. Bad teams do this. Complete teams with no holes win Superbowls.
My idea for drafting 1 overall is to envision a player wearing a gold jacket in 25 years as a Tennessee Titans. The Titans have a rare opportunity to pick the best college athletes available.
Does anyone in this draft jump out to you as a potential hall of fame type of guy?
Id love to hear your feedback

Jim: Hi Tom. Spent a night in Spokane last summer with my family, en route from Seattle to Whitefish, Montana, and Glacier National Park. Stayed at one of the Davenport properties, ate at the Onion Bar and Grill, walked around Riverfront Park and Gonzaga University. I actually got into the gym and hit a few 3s on the basketball court (Hey, the door was unlocked). It was a good trip.
As for the draft, Cam Ward makes a lot of sense as long as the decision-makers believe in him – that's the big question. Travis Hunter is intriguing, and I think he's going to be special. Abdul Carter could be a beast, but I'd be lying if I said his injuries didn't scare me a little bit. There will be a Hall of Famer in this draft class, but he doesn't necessarily have to be a first-round guy. History has proven that.

Christian Drolet from Quebec City, Canada
Question: I Jim. It's not really a question, but a wish here. I really hope the Titans will finally solve the QB problem for the next 10 or 12 years. 20 years of bridge QBs (Collins, Hasselbeck, Fitzpatrick, Tannehill) or flops (Young, Locker, Mariota, Levis) is enough. Fortunately for Ward (or unfortunately for Levis), the Oline issue seems over.
Merci et bonne journée!

Jim: Merci et bonne journée!

Steve Smith from Great Falls, Montana
Question: I've had a couple of ?'s answered by u over the years. Born in Paris, TN. I grew up in Louisville, KY (graduated w/ Phil Simms in 1974). Couple of years college in Nashville (1975/1976). I went in the Air Force in 1984-1991 (Colorado). Met my wife to be in Montana while temp duty, and have been in MT ever since. Got to see Marc Mariani in Nashville at games...we'd go to Titans once, most years. I'm not asking a question for ur "site". After Marc's 98 yd. return, when I clicked on the Titan's site, it would be the video that was shown....with awesome music and the awesome call. I would like to have a link sent to me that is the one from the website. Thanks, Jim!!

Jim: Marc Mariani highlights below:

Jack Walker from Calabasas, California
Question: Hey Jim, going to stray from the usual Cam Ward and draft conversation to give you a break. All this talk of drafting a promising young QB has me thinking back to 2006. First round, Third pick... Titans on the clock. Vince Young, hero of the Rose Bowl and possibly the best NCAA QB in history. Texas retired his jersey. So Jim, you were there... When VY10 was "on"... Was he the greatest QB to put on a Titans jersey? Of course, he was also "off" quite a bit but I remember the highlights between 2006 and six straight wins, four being 4th quarter comebacks up to 2009 winning 8/10 including making NFL history winning 5 straight after losing 6 straight. It's been a long time, Jim... Was it the friction with Fisher (who wanted to draft Leinart) that set him up for failure? The saga needs a book written... Or maybe a movie!

Jim: Vince delivered some memorable moments, that's for sure. But when I think of him, I can't help but think he didn't make the most of his talent, and potential. I'm sure not going to blame it on his coaches, who would have benefitted from him being great.

Jason Knight from Cleveland, Tennessee
Question: Hey Jim hope all is well with you and you're family. Just wanted to give my thoughts or play armchair GM. I would give Levis one more year. I would draft Carter at 1, if I couldn't trade back for more picks. Then maybe take the qb out of Louisville for competition with Levis. If not the qb then a wide receiver. I would use this draft to build the team the best I could. We have a better oline now which would help Levis if he isn't already gun shy from the abuse. Plus I've Said it before next year qb class is better. I know it would be hard because of no 3rd round pick, but I'd like to see the team get the Arizona State running back scattaboo or scattaboro, scatta something. GOD Bless you and you're family. P.S.i know I'm one of the few, but I'm glad they are not gonna use the oilers uniforms. I'd rather them use the old titans uniforms with the white helmets.

Jim: Thanks for chiming in, Jason.

Bud Stein from Jacksonville, Florida
Question: Hola Jim. The stranger from jacksonville After 45 years an Oiler /Titan fan holding on by the slimmest of threads! Now I ask ya honestly does anyone think drafting a quarteback is the answer for this team to at the very least be competitive in 2025?. Early predictions are out for 2025 and not fly by night sites Titans will win 4 games in 2025 but last year they were wrong said 4 Titans came thru with only 3 SAD VERY SAD. Thanks for what you do dont know how you stand it. I remain respectfully

Jim: You made it back in here Bud!

Cecilia Rivas from Hermitage, Tennessee
