It's Texans Week: Quick Hits on the Titans After Wednesday's Practice

01-01-25-quick-hits

NASHVILLE – The Titans returned to the practice field on Wednesday at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park to continue preparations for Sunday's season finale against the Houston Texans at Nissan Stadium.

Here's a look at today's developments:

-Titans running back Tony Pollard has already toppled the 1,000-yard mark.

And Pollard, who has 1,017 yards and five touchdowns, has been nursing an injured ankle during the latter half of the season. Pollard missed last Sunday's game in Jacksonville with the lingering injury, and an illness.

Coach Brian Callahan said on Wednesday, however, that Pollard wants to play, and the team will let him as long as he's healthy.

"If he's healthy enough to play, and feels good to play, you let him go," Callahan said. "And if he's not, just like I did last week, it's my decision if I feel like he's not in a position to be healthy enough to perform and play the way he needs to play (we'll sit him) and give him another week (off) and get him into the offseason.

"But he wants to play, and he feels pretty good today. So we'll see how the week goes."

Pollard was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, while running back Tyjae Spears (concussion) did not practice.

The status of those backs will be monitored through the week, with Julius Chestnut and Joshua Kelley also available.

"If (Tony) can't go and Tyjae can't go," Callahan said, "then Julius will take a bunch of it and we'll take a look at Josh Kelley, too. And to make sure we have enough backs on the roster for the game we'll probably have to bring up Jabari (Small)."

-I did a separate story on the quarterback situation on Wednesday, after talking to both Will Levis and Mason Rudolph.

-The Titans moved receiver Colton Dowell to the team's 'Designated for Return' list last month.

Dowell practiced with the team last week for the first time this season since suffering a torn ACL at the end of the 2023 season.

Dowell was back at practice on Wednesday, but Callahan said he doesn't anticipate him playing in the finale.

"He's not all the way ready to go," Callahan said of Dowell. "But a good three weeks of practice and a chance for him to hit the offseason with some momentum for him."

Now, for the Injury Report on Wednesday:

-Receiver Tyler Boyd (foot) did not practice.

-Kicker Nick Folk (abdomen) did not practice.

-Safety Amani Hooker (shoulder) did not practice.

-Outside linebacker Arden Key (hand) did not practice.

-Linebacker Otis Reese (ankle) did not practice.

-Running back Tyjae Spears (concussion) did not practice.

-Running back Tony Pollard (ankle) was limited in practice.

-Receiver Colton Dowell (knee) practiced in full.

-Tackle Jaelyn Duncan (shoulder) practiced in full.

-Guard Dillon Radunz (shoulder) practiced in full.

-The Titans signed kicker Matthew Wright to the team's practice squad on Wednesday.

Next practice: Thursday, 11:45 a.m.-12:55 p.m.
