NASHVILLE, Tenn. –The Titans announced Monday the team has placed Jake Locker on injured reserve and signed quarterback Jordan Palmer to the active roster.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Palmer is expected to serve as Charlie Whitehurst's backup Thursday against the Jaguars, pending updates on injured starter Zach Mettenberger, who is recovering from a shoulder injury.
With Locker injuring his non-throwing shoulder when hit by Jets defensive end Quinton Coples late in the second quarter and Mettenberger already out with his own shoulder injury, Whitehurst was left as the only healthy quarterback on the roster Sunday against the Jets.
Palmer was initially drafted in the sixth round by the Washington Redskins in 2007 and was most recently on the Chicago Bears roster in 2013 before being waived following training camp this season. He has also spent time with Cincinnati, Jacksonville and Buffalo.
In four career NFL games, Palmer has completed 10-of-15 passes for 59 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. His last snaps came in 2010 when he played in one game for the Cincinnati Bengals, where he spent the majority of his career from 2008-10.
Palmer played collegiately at Texas El-Paso, where he passed for 11,084 yards during his four year career.
