NASHVILLE – Treylon Burks put his cowboy boots on the ground in Music City back in late April, the day after the NFL Draft.
The Titans had just selected Burks in the first round, and he could hardly wait to get started.
On Monday, as the receiver packed his bags at the end of his rookie season, Burks reflected on his first NFL season.
"It's been a rookie year that I'll remember," Burks said. "I'm grateful for every opportunity that I got. Now (I need to) take this offseason like I know how and come back and get better."
Burks played in 11 games in 2022, and he finished the season with 33 catches for 444 yards and a touchdown.
The Arkansas product ended up missing six games, with a variety of injuries. He dealt with questions about his conditioning – and asthma – during offseason work.
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said he was proud of Burks for his effort, while reminding him how important the upcoming months will be.
"It is just to understand that it is not a six-month deal, it is a year-round deal," Vrabel said of his advice to Burks. "I think he realizes what he can do if he is in shape, ready to go, big and healthy. He worked his tail off. He had some unfortunate injuries. He hurt the toe, had the concussion, but I'm excited to work with him. I'm excited for him and his future. It probably got off to a slow start and that is how you learn sometimes, is by going through it."
Burks believes having a full offseason will help him in his preparation for 2023.
A year ago, he was busy making visits leading up to the NFL Draft, and that impacted just how much he was able to train.
Burks said he plays to work on everything from his speed to his physicality to his health while making "sure that I stay on top of my details and everything just to be a great player.
"I want to make sure to be the best version of myself," Burks said. "Come back, take advantage of every opportunity."
So, what's the biggest thing he learned during his first NFL season?
"Not taking anything for granted," Burks said. "Go out there and approach every day like it's your last day, be thankful four your teammates, coaches, family. Soak all of it in and just have fun."
