NASHVILLE – The Titans selected Sacramento State guard Jackson Slater in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.
Slater, selected with the 167th overall pick, is known for his versatility.
"Being a versatile guy is a big part of my game, and being able to fix problems when problems arise," Slater said. "That's a big part of offensive line, being able to adapt and do a lot of different things as well as I think my athleticism shows a lot. I'm looking forward to showing that on tape as well."
Slater started 44 games during his playing career at Sacramento State, and he was a first-team FCS All-America performer and a first-team All-Big Sky performer in 2024.
Slater worked at left guard and left tackle in college, but Titans senior football advisor Reggie McKenzie said he envisions the 6-3, 311-pounder working at center and guard in the NFL.
Slater said he thinks he could develop into a really good center, despite not having a lot of experience there up until this point.
Slater was named to Bruce Feldman's 2024 College Football Freaks list for The Athletic (405 power clean, 635 slot, 19.96 mph on GPS).
Slater is ready to work with the Titans.
"I'd say I've been following the Titans loosely over the last few years," he said. "Obviously, JC Latham was a top pick. Peter Skoronski was a top pick. Being able to watch those guys in their first couple of years and how they've developed, I think is something that I can really apply to my game and learning kind of, the do's and don'ts of your first couple years, what did you kind of figure out. I think stuff like that is something that's really going to help me with some younger guys in the room and kind of being able to relate to them a little bit and what they've gone through recently. Excited to get to work with them for sure."
