NASHVILLE, Tenn. —The Titans have added competition behind starting quarterback Marcus Mariota.
The team and veteran Matt Cassel have agreed to terms on a contract, pending a physical.

Cassel, who has played 11 seasons, brings experience to the position.
Zach Mettenberger, a 2014 draft pick, started four games for the Titans last season, and has started 10 games over his first two NFL seasons.
Alex Tanney finished last season on the roster, and he played in the season-finale against the Colts.
Cassell started seven games for the Cowboys last season, completing 119-of-204 passes for 1,276 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions, with a passer rating was 70.3.
In his career, Cassell has also played for Patriots, Chiefs, and Vikings. Titans general manager Jon Robinson was with the Patriots during Cassel's playing days in New England.
Cassell has thrown for 17,003 yards by completing 58.9 percent of his passes in his career. He's thrown for 101 touchdowns and 77 interceptions, and has a career quarterback rating of 79.3.
