NASHVILLE – The Titans have signed punter Johnny Townsend to the team's roster.
The move comes with punter Brett Kern's availability for Sunday's game against the Jets in question because of a right groin injury. Kern did not practice on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday.
Titans special teams coach Craig Aukerman, when asked about Kern on Thursday, said he's "day to day."
Decked out in No. 8, Townsend practiced with the Titans on Thursday.
Townsend, who punted at the University of Florida, played in just one game with the Ravens last season and averaged 50 yards on two punts. Prior to that, Townsend punted for the Raiders in 2018, when he appeared in all 16 games and averaged 43.2 yards on 70 punts, with a 38.3 net. Townsend was drafted by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
At Florida, Townsend ended his career with the highest punting average (46.2) in SEC history.
The Titans travel to face the Jets on Sunday.
