NASHVILLE -- The Titans have added rookie defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons to the team's 53-man roster in time for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Also, the Titans have promoted linebacker Derick Roberson from the practice squad to the active roster.
To make room on the roster, the Titans released defensive linemen Brent Urban and Matt Dickerson.
Simmons, the team's first-round pick, practiced all week and is expected to see his first action on Sunday against the Chargers at Nissan Stadium.
"It went great," Simmons said of the week. "A lot of stuff is a little rusty right now, but as the week went on my technique got better. I feel great, and (my knee) didn't have much swelling. With my knee, I knew I had an injury, but I am not going out there being timid. I just went out there full force and it felt great.
"I am just trusting coach (Mike) Vrabel and the process right now, trusting their plan with me. If they decide to play be this weekend, we'll go from there."
Simmons, who suffered a torn ACL during a workout in February, spent the first six weeks of the season rehabbing the injury. It's dominated his life as a Titan since being drafted.
Simmons began the season on the team's Non-Football Injury list. NFI rules allow players to begin practicing with the team after Week 6. In making the move, the team officially activated him from Reserve NFI status.
"It's been lovely, being on the field with my teammates," Simmons said. "Coming in, our defense is doing great right now, so I am looking forward to doing whatever they have me doing."
Roberson, signed by the team as an undrafted free agent back in May, had two sacks in the team's final preseason game against the Bears. He played collegiately at Sam Houston State and has spent the entire season on the team's practice squad after being waived during the cut from 90 to 53 players.
Urban has played in four games this season and he's recorded four tackles and three quarterback pressures. Dickerson has played in two games and recorded a tackles and a quarterback pressure.
The Titans face the Chargers at 3:05 on Sunday at Nissan Stadium.
