NASHVILLE – Titans head coach Brian Callahan talked to reporters on Monday, one day after the team's 20-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Here's a look at the hot topics from the presser as the team turns its attention to Sunday's game at the Buffalo Bills.
-Running back Tyjae Spears is week-to-week with a hamstring injury, Callahan said. "It was significant enough where he is kind of in question for this week," Callahan said. "Sometimes those guys heal fast, sometimes they're a week or two. So, we'll kind of see where he ends up."
-Callahan said there were no other big injury issues coming out of the game.
-Callahan once again defended quarterback Will Levis, and said the team believes in him. "He needs a little bit of success, too, he needs to get his confidence going," Callahan said of Levis. "I think we have a guy who has the potential to be a really good quarterback, and thus far, we haven't met the potential. We have to keep working at it."
-Callahan said Leroy Watson IV played "OK" at right tackle in Sunday's game, but he said that's a position that will continue to be evaluated. Watson replaced Nicholas Petit-Frere, the starter in Weeks 1-4, in the starting lineup against the Colts. "I wouldn't say that position is locked down by any stretch," Callahan said. "We'll see. We're trying to find an answer there. We haven't gotten the caliber of play that's required to have a right tackle that can function, and so far the results have not been where we need them to be. Leroy wasn't terrible, but he wasn't' great, and we'll keep looking at it."
-Callahan acknowledged "it was a conservative game plan" against the Colts. He said the team knew it was going to be able to run the football, and he felt the defense would hold up and give the team a chance to win. "But we have to find a way to finish in the fourth quarter, that's sort of been our issue," he said. "We haven't done enough on offense to win the game."
-Callahan said he felt like Levis was healthy enough to guide the team to a win on Sunday. Callahan said he appreciates Levis fighting through some lingering discomfort from the right shoulder injury he suffered against the Dolphins on September 30.
-Cornerback L'Jarius Sneed gave up a late touchdown to the Colts, and he was also flagged for interference in the contest. When asked specifically about Sneed, Callahan said "it was probably not his best game. … I think he's a hell of a player and a really good corner and we're happy to have him."
-With the Bills and Lions on the horizon, the Titans need to right the ship. "There's no reprieve," Callahan said. "You have to come back to work, and you have to find ways to get better. … Guys understand, we're close. We're not far from being a team capable of winning these games that we've lost. There's a lot of positive things … but when you're 1-4, the negative gets highlighted, as it should. But there's still a lot of good things going on."
