Catch Cally?: What Titans HC Brian Callahan Said Before Wednesday's Practice

CatchCally

NASHVILLE – Titans coach Brian Callahan spoke to reporters before Wednesday's practice.

The team is scheduled to practice from 1:05 p.m.-2:35 p.m. today to prepare for Sunday's game vs the Indianapolis Colts.

Some real quick highlights on what Callahan, aka "Cally", said before I head to practice:

-Callahan said he expects quarterback Will Levis to be close to a full participant in practice on Wednesday, but indicated he'd likely be listed as "limited" on the official Injury Report with the right shoulder injury. "He's going to go out and throw," Callahan said of Levis, "and we'll see how he feels, how his body responds. The intent is for him to practice, and he'll practice as much as he can tolerate. Hopefully he'll feel pretty good."

-Callahan said the addition of veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian to the team's practice squad earlier on Wednesday doesn't necessarily mean Levis won't be ready for Sunday. It's more for insurance, Callahan said. "Just to have another veteran quarterback, to learn this week and have some familiarity," Callahan said of Siemian. "If we need him for the emergency 3rd on game day, we could potentially use him. With a quarterback dealing with an injury, it was the smart thing for us to do as an insurance policy."

-Callahan said the plan is for Leroy Watson to compete with Nicholas Petit-Frere for the right tackle spot after being elevated from the practice squad earlier today. "We'll see what he has, and where he can help us," Callahan said of Watson. "It's just an opportunity for him, and we'll see what he does with it. … They'll both work and we'll see where he is at the end of the week."

-Callahan said cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons and receiver DeAndre Hopkins will all get a rest day on Wednesday, and not practice.

-Callahan expressed optimism when discussing Simmons and his availability for Sunday. Simmons missed the Monday night game against the Dolphins with an elbow injury.

-Callahan said the Titans plan to add tackle John Ojukwu, released from the 53-man roster on Tuesday, back to the practice squad.

-Callahan said he told receiver Calvin Ridley the team needs to do a better job of getting him the football. "We need to use his speed and explosiveness more," Callahan said. "Just get it in his hands every which way we can. And that's on me to get him in those spots where he can get the ball more. We need to find a way to get him going."

-As the Titans prepare for the Colts, they're preparing for both quarterbacks – Joe Flacco and Anthony Richardson. Callahan called the quarterbacks "polar opposites" and said both are capable of winning. "They have talent, they are just very different styles," Callahan said. "It's a challenge."
