Catch Cally?: What Titans HC Brian Callahan Said About QB Situation, Trade Talk and More

CatchCally

NASHVILLE – Titans coach Brian Callahan spoke to reporters before Wednesday's practice.

The team is scheduled to practice from 1:05 p.m.-2:35 p.m. today to prepare for Sunday's game at the Detroit Lions.

Some real quick highlights on what Callahan, aka "Cally", said before I head to practice:

-Reports surfaced this morning that the Titans were trading receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs for a conditional draft pick while also trading linebacker Ernest Jones IV to the Seahawks in exchange for linebacker Jerome Baker and a fourth-round draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Neither deal is official, so Callahan said he's not currently able to talk about the specifics of the trades, or even confirm them.

"We're all aware of everything that's out there," Callahan said. "There's not anything I can comment on specifically right now, due to the nature of how these things work. But definitely aware of what's out there, and I would expect some movement on our roster over the next period of time here. But nothing I can comment on too specifically, because until anything is official, there's not much to say."

-Callahan said the team leaning towards starting Mason Rudolph at quarterback on Sunday against the Lions, and giving Will Levis another week to heal.

Rudolph started this past Sunday against the Bills, while Levis had the week off to recover from the shoulder injury he suffered against the Dolphins in Week 4.

"The outlook is we'll probably give Will one more week – we'll see how the week goes," Callahan said. "He's still in that week-to-week mode, and I'm not necessarily ruling him out. But I do think we're going to take a look and let Mason take more reps this week and get ready to play and see how Will comes through the week.

"I think (Will) is getting better every day, and he'll be out there doing a little bit of work as well, working back."

Callahan said there is "nothing official, but probably leaning towards Mason one more week, and let Will have one more week of rest."

-Callahan said the team plans to continue to evaluate linebacker Cedric Gray, designated for return from Injured Reserve earlier this month, one more week.

Gray has practiced the past two weeks, and the team has one more week to open Gray's window to return.

"He's coming along well," Callahan said of Gray. "This is the last week of his window, and we'll have to make that decision (on Monday)."

-Second-year receiver Colton Dowell, who suffered a torn ACL at the end of last season, is still in the recovery phase while he remains on Injured Reserve. He's currently not physically ready to return to action.

-Callahan said tackle Isaiah Prince, signed to the team's practice squad on Tuesday, will need some time to work his way into the system. Said he doesn't anticipate him sliding in and starting at right tackle this week, and he'll be evaluated moving forward.

-At receiver, Callahan said there will be some opportunities for guys to work their way up from the practice squad. Mason Kinsey, Tay Martin and Bryce Oliver are currently on the teams' practice squad. "There will be opportunities for sure," Callahan said. "As far as what that looks like, I'm not quite concrete on yet."

-Running back Tyjae Spears (hamstring) and defensive lineman Keondre Coburn (knee) should return to practice on Wednesday and there's a chance they could return to action on Sunday.
