Biography
PRO: The Titans signed Tre Avery as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft to add speed and depth to the cornerback room. He won a job in his first training camp and went on to appear in 14 games with three starts as a rookie. In his second season, he participated in 15 games with two starts. Prior to arriving in the NFL, the 5-foot-11-inch, 185-pounder appeared in 35 games with 22 starts over four seasons at Rutgers (2018-21) and totaled 92 career tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, four interceptions, 17 passes defensed and one forced fumble. The Baltimore, Md., native also registered eight kick returns for 169 yards over his collegiate career.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
• In 2023, Avery's totals included 31 tackles, two tackles for loss, two passes defensed and two special teams tackles in 15 games.
• In 2022, Avery led the team with nine passes defensed as an undrafted rookie. His total ranked sixth in the NFL among all rookies. He was the first Titans rookie to lead the team in passes defensed since Adoree' Jackson in 2017.
TITANS TIDBITS:
• Avery initially committed to play football at Ohio State as part of the 2016 signing class, after being recruited by then-defensive coordinator Chris Ash, who departed a few months later to become the head coach at Rutgers. Despite leaving Ohio State prior to his freshman season and instead enrolling at Toledo, Avery maintained a relationship with Ash. Eventually, he joined Ash at Rutgers and went on to play in 35 career games for the Scarlet Knights.
• On Aug. 30, 2022, Avery welcomed a new son, Riley, into the world. The following day, he received a call from then-Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and then-general manager Jon Robinson that he had made the Titans roster as an undrafted rookie.
• In 2024, he started his own streetwear and luxury clothing line called Lignée, which is French for "bloodline."
CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
• The Baltimore, Md., native was signed by the Titans as a rookie free agent on May 13, 2022.
COLLEGE:
• Appeared in 35 games with 22 starts over four seasons at Rutgers (2018-21). Totaled 92 career tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, four interceptions, 17 passes defensed and one forced fumble. Added eight kick returns for 169 yards. Transferred to Rutgers in 2017 from Toledo where he did not appear in a game. Transferred to Toledo from Ohio State in 2016 prior to the season.
• As a senior (2021), saw action in 12 games with nine starts and tallied a career-high-tying 37 tackles. Added 1.5 tackles for loss, one interception and six passes defensed.
• As a junior (2020), started all nine games and recorded career-bests with 37 tackles, two tackles for loss and a team-high-tying eight passes defensed. Also tallied one interception. Named third-team All-Big Ten by the league's coaches and media.
• As a sophomore (2019), played in all 12 games and made four starts. Posted 17 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, a career-best two interceptions, three passes defensed and one forced fumble. Added eight kick returns for 169 yards (21.1-yard avg.) including a long return of 28 yards.
• As a redshirt freshman (2018), appeared in two games and notched one tackle in his first season at Rutgers.
• Transferred to Rutgers in 2017 from Toledo where he did not appear in a game.
• Transferred to Toledo from Ohio State in 2016 prior to the season.
• Graduated from Rutgers in May 2021 with a degree in labor studies and employment relations.
PERSONAL:
• Has a son, Riley.
• Attended Franklin (Md.) High School where he was named first team all-state and all-metro as a senior after collecting 91 tackles, seven passes defensed and four interceptions.
• Transferred to Franklin from St. Frances Academy (Md.) where he earned honorable mention all-state and all-conference accolades as a junior.
