Biography
PRO: The Titans selected James Williams in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-4-inch, 232-pounder is a versatile athlete that is known for his speed, aggression and hard-hitting ability. The University of Miami (Fla.) product saw action in 33 games as a safety for the Hurricanes and amassed 162 tackles with four interceptions. Williams will look to make the transition to linebacker with the Titans and carve out a role on special teams coverage units at the NFL level.
TITANS TIDBITS:
• Williams played against fellow 2024 Titans draftee Jarvis Brownlee Jr. since they were both young from pee wee ball through high school.
• Williams' hidden talent is writing poetry.
CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
• The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native was selected by the Titans in the seventh round (242nd overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft.
COLLEGE:
• Played in 33 games with 29 starts in three seasons at Miami (Fla.) and recorded 162 tackles, four interceptions, 17 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Announced his intentions to forego his final year of eligibility and enter NFL Draft at conclusion of 2023 regular season.
AS A JUNIOR (2023), started all 12 games of the regular season and ranked second on team with 73 tackles. Added an interception, two forced fumbles, five passes defensed and a fumble recovery.
• Against Texas A&M (9/9), notched nine tackles in win over the No. 23 Aggies.
• Against Georgia Tech (10/7), posted his first interception of the season and returned it 44 yards.
• Against Virginia (10/28), registered a career-high 13 tackles in an overtime victory.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2022), played in 11 games with 10 starts at safety and ranked second on team with 58 total tackles, including a tackle for loss, an interception and seven passes defensed, which ranked among team leaders. Added two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
• Against Bethune-Cookman (9/3), started the season opener and posted three tackles and his first interception of season.
• Against Southern Mississippi (9/10), notched five tackles, including a half tackle for loss and a pass defensed.
• At Texas A&M (9/17), led team with seven tackles to go along with two passes defensed.
• At Virginia Tech (10/15), posted six tackles and two pass breakups in the win.
• Against Duke (10/22), amassed five tackles, as well as forced and recovered a fumble.
• Against Pittsburgh (11/26), led the team with 10 tackles while notching a fumble recovery and pass breakup.
AS A TRUE FRESHMAN (2021), saw action in 10 games and made seven starts while earning All-ACC honorable mention recognition. Collected 31 tackles and a half tackle for loss while leading the Hurricanes with two interceptions. Missed final two games of season due to injury.
• Against Alabama (9/4), made collegiate debut in season opener and had two tackles.
• Against Central Connecticut State (9/25), made his first start and recorded first interception of career. The start began a streak of seven straight starts to end his season.
• At Pittsburgh (10/30), earned ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors after collecting a then career-high nine tackles and his second interception of season.
• Majored in sports administration at Miami (Fla.).
PERSONAL:
• Attended Plantation American Heritage (Fla.) High School as a senior and was a five-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals. Listed as the No. 19 overall player in the Rivals Top 250 and was ranked the No. 1 safety nationally and the No. 4 player in Florida by Rivals. Was selected to the Under Armour All-America Game and U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
• As a junior at Western High School, recorded 62 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, six interceptions, four passes defended, five forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception returned for a touchdown.
• Also played on the basketball team.
