Biography
PRO: The Titans signed Daniel Brunskill early in the 2023 free agency period to bring toughness, versatility and experience to the offensive front. In his first campaign with the team, he started 14 games at right guard. The 6-foot-5-inch, 300-pounder entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons in 2017. After two seasons on Atlanta's practice squad and a stint in the Alliance of American Football, he found a home with the San Francisco 49ers where he appeared in 61 games with 42 starts from 2019-2022. The San Diego State product and former collegiate tight end has shown versatility during his career having started games at all five positions on the offensive front in his first five NFL campaigns.
TITANS TIDBITS:
• Brunskill went to San Diego State as a walk-on offensive lineman in 2012. He made the switch to tight end for his first three collegiate seasons and earned a scholarship after the spring semester of 2015. After being named honorable-mention All-Mountain West as a tight end during his junior campaign, Brunskill switched back to offensive line for his final season after depth issues cropped up on the Aztecs' offensive front. He started all 14 games at right tackle as a senior and was named second-team All-Mountain West.
• In February of 2020, Brunskill joined current and former NFL players in Budapest, Hungary, where the group conducted two days of free football camps for men, women and children, while additionally hosting community activities. The camps were organized by American Football Without Barriers, a nonprofit foundation that was co-created by former NFL tight end Gary Barnidge. Its mission is to teach American football to those all around the globe.
• As a member of the Alliance of American Football's (AAF) San Diego Fleet in 2019, Brunskill was coached by former NFL head coach Mike Martz.
• At the conclusion of his first season in Tennessee, Brunskill was voted by the Nashville media as the recipient of the 2023 Eddie George Good Guy award. The honor is given each season to a player who is helpful in the local reporters' coverage of the Titans.
CAREER TRANSACTIONS:
• The Valley Center, Calif., native was originally signed by the Atlanta Falcons as a rookie free agent on May 1, 2017.
• Waived by the Falcons on Sept. 2, 2017 and signed to the team's practice squad a day later.
• Signed by the Falcons to a future's contract on Jan. 15, 2018.
• Waived by the Falcons on Sept. 1, 2018 and signed to the team's practice squad a day later.
• Released by the Falcons from their practice squad on Jan. 2, 2019.
• Signed by the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent on April 12, 2019.
• Signed by the Titans as an unrestricted free agent on March 20, 2023.
COLLEGE:
• Appeared in 54 games with 32 starts at San Diego State. Switched from tight end to offensive line prior to his senior season. Finished his career with 15 receptions for 143 yards and three touchdowns.
• At San Diego State, Brunskill was on the Wuerffel Trophy watch list which goes to the athlete who does the most community service, among other attributes. He was also chosen as a Burlsworth nominee which is given to the best college walk-on.
• As a senior (2016), earned second-team All-Mountain West honors after starting all 14 games at right tackle. Was named the team's offensive lineman of the year and was one of two players to win the team's President's Award (highest standard of athletic and academic excellence).
• As a junior (2015), started all 14 games at tight end and recorded 10 receptions for 112 yds with two receiving scores. Was selected honorable-mention All-Mountain West by the league's media and head coaches.
• As a sophomore (2014), saw action in all 13 games with four starts and posted five catches for 31 yards with a touchdown.
• As a redshirt freshman (2013), played in all 13 games mainly as the blocking tight end.
• Redshirted in 2012.
• Majored in civil engineering at San Diego State.
PERSONAL:
• Attended Valley Center (Calif.) High School where he was a two-year letterwinner.
• As a senior (2011), named a team captain and was selected first-team all-CIF, first-team All-Valley League, first-team All-North County and second-team All-State.
• Also played volleyball, lacrosse and was on the wrestling team.
