Nashville, Tenn. — Titans defensive back Alterraun Verner has joined the efforts to fight hunger this holiday season.
The Alterraun Verner Foundation, with the assistance from teammates, their wives or girlfriends and Titans staff, partnered with Room In The Inn to encourage and provide for those who are in dire need of a meal this holiday season.
Verner recruited the help of fellow Titans Jordan Babineaux, Patrick Bailey, Michael Griffin, Robert Johnson, Colin McCarthy, Collin Mooney, Derrick Morgan, Coty Sensabaugh, Tim Shaw, Fernando Velasco and Damian Williams.
The players assisted as waiters on Tuesday, serving meals to guests at Room In The Inn's downtown headquarters. The players served hot plates of ham, sweet potatoes, green beans and corn and also served cookies for dessert. When the guests completed their great meal, the players passed out care bags that included socks and cough drops.
"Our whole goal for the foundation is to help others, spiritually, emotionally and physically," Verner said. "Room In The Inn has the same vision, wanting to assist people by not only helping them get on their feet but also show through God that anything is possible."
Shelters in the Nashville-Davidson County area place a priority on accepting women and children first, and often there is not enough space for men. Room In The Inn, which is in its 26th year, focuses on helping homeless men who may not have any other options as the temperatures drop from November through March and provides emergency shelter solutions year-round.
Verner wanted to give back to this population because, often times, those same men are veterans who have served and protected the country. This effort helps to serve a need in the Nashville community.
