NASHVILLE, Tenn. – It was a "See ball, get ball" moment for Corey Davis, and the Titans receiver went up and got it.
On the final play of Sunday's Titans vs. Eagles game at Nissan Stadium, quarterback Marcus Mariota's third down pass hung in the air for what seemed like a lifetime, heading in the direction of Davis, with the game on the line.
Davis saw the ball headed his way, and made sure it was his.
"Literally, I was thinking just go get it," Davis said of his 10-yard catch, which gave the Titans a 26-23 overtime win. "(Mike) Vrabel always talks about players just making plays, and that's what it comes down to. So when the ball was in the air, all I was thinking was to go get it."
It was the play of the day for the Titans, on what was a breakout day for Davis.
"I would say this is No.1 for sure," Davis said of his best career moments. "You know, God is good and His timing is always right on. I'm proud of this team. They were very relentless, and did not stop fighting. It feels really good."
In the locker room, teammates gave props to Davis.
His athletic and tough touchdown catch to win the game was nice, but it was just part of an incredibly productive day.
Davis caught nine passes for 161 yards in the contest, including a 51-yard catch. Time and again Mariota kept finding him, and time and again Davis kept coming down with the football. His game-winning catch capped off a 16-play, 75-yard drive that ended it with just five seconds left on the clock.
"I think that is the expectation," Mariota said of Davis. "I love that guy. He brings his heart out every single day to work. I think he's got incredible talent."
Titans receivers said they knew Davis, the fifth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, would make the play.
"I'm so proud of my guy," receiver Tajae Sharpe said of Davis. "He had a breakout day today, and it's time for people around the league to recognize we're nothing to play with."
"That's my brother, and that's what he does," Titans receiver Taywan Taylor said of Davis. "He's capable of that every game."
Davis was in the middle of the wild celebration at the end.
His catch will long be remembered in the annals at Nissan Stadium, just like Kenny Britt's game-winning catch thrown by Vince Young to cap off a 99-yard drive to beat the Cardinals back in 2009.
It doesn't look like Davis will have the ball as a keepsake, however. He was kicking himself for letting it get away. Once again, guard Quinton Spain picked the ball up, and threw it into the stands.
"I keep just throwing it up," Davis said with a smile. "I'm so mad."
At the most important moment of his NFL career, however, Davis ended up with the ball in his hands.
"I felt great," Davis said. "I know a lot of guys were tired, but they kept fighting. I'm extremely proud of the guys and it feels good. It feels really good."
