NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Titans assistant athletic trainer Jerome Reid has been named the 2017 Professional Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Tennessee Athletic Trainers' Society.
Reid received the recognition during an awards ceremony at the Tennessee Trainers Association's annual meeting over the weekend.
Reid is headed into his fourth season with the Titans.
"It is truly an honor to be recognized amongst my peers,'' Reid said. "So many people were well deserving of the award, and I didn't even know I was nominated. So it's a great honor."
The award is named after former Vanderbilt University athletic trainer Joe Worden and has been given annually since 1990 to the individual who best exemplifies the qualities that Worden demonstrated in career.
Prior to being hired full-time by the Titans, Reid held the position of athletic trainer with Saint Thomas Hospital, where he assisted the Titans training staff.
"To be an athletic trainer, you have to love it, especially on this level,'' Reid said. "You spent your entire day here. You spend more time with the players and your co-workers than you do with your own family. So you have to be fully committed and love what you do to be in this profession."
Before moving to Nashville, Reid worked as an athletic trainer at Hampton High School in Hampton, VA. His other work experiences include a seasonal athletic training staff assistant position with the Miami Dolphins in 2008. He also worked as a summer athletic training intern with the Titans from 2005-07.
A native of Petersburg, VA., Reid is a two-time graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University receiving both his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training as well as his Master's degree in Health and Movement Sciences.
Titans assistant athletic trainer Don Moseley won the Joe Worden/Professional Athletic Trainer of the Year Award in 2012.
