Titans to host third-annual USA FB Coaches Clinic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The third-annual USA Football Coaching School presented by the Titans will take place on Saturday, May 16 at I.T. Creswell Middle School. Titans Quarterbacks Coach Craig Johnson will serve as the day's keynote speaker for the second consecutive year. Johnson enters his 10th year with the Titans and his eighth as quarterback coach. In addition to Johnson's NFL coaching experience, he has also been successful on the high school level and was an accomplished collegiate player. Coach Johnson promises new information for this year's attendees, helping them be better coaches both on and off the field.

"A clinic like this is just what these coaches need," said Johnson. "They get the opportunity to hear what coaching is like at the NFL level, but those values transition back down to college, and to the high school level. The techniques are implacable, all the way from little league, to high school, to the NFL. The chance to hear that their techniques are reinforced and that they are doing it properly is a great thing."

The Nashville event is one of 48 USA Football coaching schools in 2009, conducted in 35 states. Every USA Football coaching school incorporates classroom sessions and on-field instruction. With their $40 registration, area coaches receive a box lunch and a high-performance Under Armour-USA Football shirt ($24.99 retail value) in addition to top instruction.

Clinicians cover topics including coaching philosophy and best practices, responsible coaching, teaching proper fundamentals, executing drills, chalk board sessions, program management, and health and fitness. Instructors include Daniel McGugin, head coach of the 2007 state champion Montgomery Bell Academy, Joe Guy from the Englewood Football League, Josh Jones from the Knoxville Falcons Youth Football,  Ralph Potter and Patrick Abernathy from Brentwood Academy, John Patton from Una Bears Youth Football, Ron Word of West Nashville Broncos Youth Football, and former Titan Mike Jones, a defensive lineman on the Titans 1999 Super Bowl team.
