NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans added a pair of veteran free agents to the roster, signing running back Alvester Alexander and linebacker Greg Jones.
Additionally, the Titans waived a pair of undrafted rookies: running back Stefphon Jefferson and tackle Matt Sewell.
Alexander (5-10, 206) was signed to the Titans practice squad for the final week of the 2012 season after spending the majority of the year on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. He was originally signed by the Chicago Bears as a rookie free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft but was released by the Bears prior to training camp.
In three seasons at the University of Wyoming, Alexander rushed for 2,127 yards and 27 touchdowns. As a sophomore, he set the school's single-season record with 14 rushing touchdowns.
Jones (6-0, 242), who is expected to compete as a middle linebacker, has appeared in 22 career games since entering the NFL in 2011 as a sixth-round draft pick (185th overall) of the New York Giants. As a rookie with the Giants, he played in all 16 games, including five starts, and totaled 25 tackles. During the postseason, he led the team with seven special teams tackles.
Jones was released by the Giants prior to the 2012 campaign and signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in November. He saw action in six games with the Jaguars, primarily on special teams.
In four years at Michigan State, Jones became one of the most decorated defenders in Spartans history. In 52 games (46 starts), he recorded 465 tackles, 16.5 sacks and two interceptions. He was selected as an Associated Press first-team All-American following his junior and senior seasons.
