NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Thursday is a travel day for the Titans as they head west to play their third preseason game Friday night against the Dallas Cowboys. After a pair of physical practices on Tuesday, the focus Wednesday involved more mental preparation for the nationally-televised game on FOX.
"Today was really the only work besides the walkthrough (Thursday) we have against the Cowboys," head coach Jeff Fisher said. "Anytime you go off the cards, the tempo is going to go down a little bit, but we got the work done with the tempo and the timing and the contact we needed to yesterday."
Titans players spent Wednesday going over the mental aspects of what Dallas might bring to the game.
"We haven't focused on the individual athletes out there," cornerback Cary Williams said "We're just making sure we have the right assignments and responsibilities down."
Opening up their new stadium, Fisher believes the Cowboys will come out with a high level of intensity that the Titans will need to match.
"They lost their opening preseason game and this is their home opener in their new stadium so they will be prepared and we'll probably get a pretty sophisticated game plan out of them," Fisher said.
EDISON SHINING: Rookie wide receiver Dominique Edison has been making a serious push for playing time this week, impressing Titans coaches – and fans -- with some fantastic catches. On Tuesday Edison had two touchdown catches, and Wednesday he continued his solid play.
"He's been making a lot of nice plays out there," Fisher said. "He's getting in the right place. His legs are dragging, but he's still getting open and making plays. He's getting to the right place at the right time. It's good to see he's making progress."
Edison is a sixth round draft choice out of Stephen F. Austin, which is only about an hour drive away from his hometown of San Augustine, Texas. Both are about a four-hour drive from Dallas, meaning the trip to face the Cowboys will be a homecoming of sorts for the rookie. Another Texan, quarterback Vince Young, had very positive things to say about Edison.
"He's coming along pretty well," Young said. "Even if he makes a mental mistake, and we know that's going to happen, he's still catching the ball and that's the important thing."
Edison realizes he has to take things one day at a time, and is striving to improve every day.
"I feel like each day I'm getting better," he said. "Now that I know the playbook better than I did before, I'm able to just go out and play and not think as much. I think every day I'm getting better."
INJURY UPDATE: Linebacker Josh Stamer, cornerback Ryan Mouton, safety Nick Schommer, offensive tackle David Stewart, defensive tackle Jason Jones and wide receiver Chris Davis will not play in Friday's game against Dallas, Fisher said.
Others who are injured or recovering from injury but have not been ruled out of Friday's game include linebackers Colin Allred and Stephen Tulloch, safety Vincent Fuller and wide receiver Mark Jones.
