NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Titans rookie Dane Cruikshank has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Week 2.
Cruikshank scored a 66-yard touchdown on a fake punt, making a catch on a ball thrown by Kevin Byard and then sprinting into the end zone. The fifth round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft also led the team with two special teams tackles.
Cruikshank received praise from his head coach and teammates after the scoring play. He lined up as a gunner on the play, and caught the left-handed pass thrown by Byard.
After making a move on a Texans defender in the open field, Cruikshank raced into the end zone and celebrated with a leap into the Nissan Stadium crowd.
"It was a surreal feeling, just crazy," Cruikshank said after the game. "It was such a great atmosphere. I've never really been a part of something like this. To score my first touchdown of my career, it's awesome. I thank God I am in a position to do this for the Titans and my family."
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said Cruikshank was awarded with a game ball.
"Dane had two tackles on special teams, obviously had the huge play, the huge catch-and-run," Vrabel said. (And he) caused another penalty on special teams."
