NASHVILLE – Titans General Manager Jon Robinson called safety Kenny Vaccaro a "primary target" while at the NFL Combine last month.
He wasn't fibbing.
On Monday, the Titans agreed to terms on a multi-year deal with Vaccaro.
The Titans also informed safety Johnathan Cyprien he'll be released. Additionally, the Titans re-signed running back David Fluellen to a one-year contract, ahead of him becoming an exclusive rights free agent.
"Kenny came in and played really good football for us," Robinson said at the combine. "We are kind of working through several things now with him, with that position group as a whole. There's some guys in free agency, Kenny being a primary target. We'll kind of see how that … plays out."
It played out well for the Titans.
Vaccaro, signed prior to the start of the 2018 season, played in 13 games for the Titans last year. He recorded 70 tackles, with two sacks and an interception. He proved to be a tone-setter, and a reliable pro while playing alongside safety Kevin Byard.
Vaccaro played his first four NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
"He's physical," Titans coach Mike Vrabel said of Vaccaro. "He loves football. He came in and did a great job, learned the system quickly. He plays hard. I think he's a good teammate, all those things we talk about."
Cyprien, who tore his ACL prior to last season, was signed by the Titans in free agency prior to the 2017 season after playing 60 games in four seasons in Jacksonville. Cyprien started 10 games for the Titans in 2017 and finished the year with 65 tackles and one sack.
A six-year veteran, Cyprien told Titans Online earlier this offseason he was aware of all the possibilities from a business perspective.
"In all reality, there's a couple of different scenarios that can happen," Cyprien said. "It could be we're both on the team together, and I would be more than happy to do that, no problem. Or it could be just myself, or it could just be Kenny. That's just the reality of this business. That's not for me to decide, of course."
In Fluellen, the Titans once again have a dependable back-up behind running backs Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis, and key special teams player, for at least another season.
Fluellen, who joined the Titans in 2015 as an undrafted free agent, has played in 23 games for the Titans over the last two seasons.
Fluellen's 2018 season was cut short because of an injury he suffered against the Patriots on November 11, and he ended the season on Injured Reserve. Fluellen has eight carries for 37 yards in his career, including four carries for 16 yards in 2018.
Fluellen, played collegiately at Toledo, had nine special teams stops in 2017, and two in 2018 before being injured.
