INDIANAPOLIS –** Derrick Henry was a bruiser down the stretch here on Sunday, and the Titans weren't mad about it.
"Did I look like I was running angry?," Henry said with a smile. "I was just trying to make plays."
The Titans running back looked like he was running mad at the end of Sunday's 20-16 win over the Colts, and the Titans were sure glad he did.
"He is amazing," said linebacker Brian Orakpo, who watched from the sideline as Henry pounded away down the stretch. "You get in those type of situations and it's like a light turns on for him. He is definitely a closer for us … and he is a big back to bring down.
"He turns into that monster mode, or beast mode, and he's a hard guy to bring down."
Henry ran for 79 yards on 13 carries as the Titans rallied from a 10-point deficit to win. In the fourth quarter Henry produced runs of 10, 10, 7, 14 and 9 yards before ripping off a 16-yard run late, which went for a first down, and allowed the Titans to run out the clock. The final run ended with a stiff-arm of Colts defensive back Matthias Farley.
It fired up his teammates.
"I used to be the stiff-arm king, but I think Derrick Henry took that crown from me," tight end Delanie Walker said. "Every time he stiff-arms somebody I am amazed at how hard he runs. I am just happy to have him on my team."
The Titans got the running game going when it mattered most.
After getting held 21 rushing yards in the first half, and minus-6 in the third quarter, the Titans finally busted loose when it mattered most.
The final tally – 28 carries for 92 yards as a team – doesn't jump off the page, but the finish left a mark.
In addition to some battering ram runs by Henry, running back DeMarco Murray added some big receptions in the passing game. It was Murray's one-yard touchdown run that gave the Titans the lead in the fourth quarter.
Henry said Titans offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie challenged the offense at the half.
The Titans responded.
Henry gained all 79 of his yards in the fourth quarter, after being held to zero yards on three carries through three quarters. Henry ran for 131 yards in the October 16 game against the Colts, which included a 72-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
"I am really happy for the offensive line," Henry said. "Everybody has been criticizing them, saying this and that, and those guys work hard every day. Those guys did a great job.
"It was a great feeling as a whole when we got the momentum. … (Coach Robiskie) was mad – he was hurt. He felt like we could make plays, and we were letting those guys manhandle us in the first half and that is not us, that is not who we are. I was mad, I was pissed, and I am sure everyone else was pissed and in the second half we wanted to come out and be relentless, and we got a win."
