NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Titans running back Dion Lewis leads the team in rushing yards, and he's second on the team in receptions.
The all-around back has been just what the team was looking for when it signed him in free agency -- and probably more.
Lewis, formerly with the Patriots, needs just two catches (35 in 2018) to set a new career high for receptions in a season – he had 36 in 2015. Lewis had 32 catches last year in New England.
The Titans have seven games to go, starting with Sunday's game against the Colts.
"I kind of knew that I would be involved a little bit more (in the passing game), but at the same time I just try to go out there every day and prove to my coaches what I can do, what I can handle, and hopefully I can get more," Lewis said. "I just try to do whatever it takes to help my team win."
Lewis leads the team with 396 yards on 112 carries this season, and he's also caught 35 passes for 270 yards.
He trails only receiver Corey Davis (43 catches, 576 yards) in both categories.
"Just being in the open field, being in space, I think that's where I am the best at," Lewis said. "I can make people miss. But obviously I like running inside as well. It's whatever coaches want me to do.
"Every week is different – some games I might catch more passes than others. But whatever the game plan is I just try and execute the best for my teammates."
Delanie Update
Titans tight end Delanie Walker remains in a walking boot, but he's making progress after September surgery on his ankle.
Walker suffered the injury in Week One, and he was placed on Injured Reserve.
This week, I asked Walker if there's any chance he could return this season.
"In my mind, it's just to get healthy. But in the back of my mind, if I can get healthy earlier where I can come back and play, I'm going to do that," Walker said.
"But like I told you guys, I really don't know. I don't know what the time length is going to be. I feel good right now. Could I feel better when the time comes when we're in the playoffs? Yeah. We'll see. But right now, I'm just worried about taking it day by day just to get healthy and be able to come back next year. But if I can play this year, I will."
