NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota said he's working his way back from the injury he suffered on Saturday against the Redskins as he sets his sights on Sunday's game against the Colts.
His status for this week's contest likely won't come into better focus until later in the week.
"Just taking it day to day," Mariota said during his regular weekly appearance on 104.5-FM's "Wake Up Zone" on Wednesday morning. "I am doing my best, (trying) to get back. That's all I can do. I'll do everything in my power to see if I can go. Again, it is just taking it one day at a time."
The Titans are scheduled to practice later Wednesday as the team steps up its preparation for Sunday's game against the Colts. The Titans, winners of four straight, need a win to advance into the playoffs.
Mariota suffered a stinger late in the first half of Saturday's game vs. the Redskins, and he did not return.
Back-up quarterback Blaine Gabbert stepped in for Mariota, and guided the Titans to a 25-16 win.
"It was one of those deals where it kind of crunched, and basically sent my whole right side numb and tingly," Mariota said on 104.5-FM's "Wake Up Zone" with Kevin Ingram, Mark Howard and Blaine Bishop. "It was one of those things, man, and it's unfortunate because nerves are weird, they take time.
"But again, I am fighting and I am going to do my best to be out there."
During a press conference on Monday, Vrabel said the injury is not the same one he suffered against the Dolphins in Week One, an elbow injury that lingered and caused him to wear a makeshift glove on his throwing hand the first half of the season.
Vrabel said there's a scenario where Mariota could play even if he's limited during the course of the practice week.
Mariota was injured after being sacked on a first-and-10 play from the Redskins 14. Trainers examined Mariota on the field, and he headed to the locker room prior to the half. Mariota remained in the locker room during the second half of the contest.
Mariota completed 10-of-13 passes for 110 yards before leaving the contest.
Mariota is scheduled to talk to reporters after practice later Wednesday. Mariota said the Titans are approaching Sunday's game like previous weeks.
"For us, it's just another challenge, another obstacle," Mariota said. "Guys around the building are excited, and we're looking forward to that meeting on Sunday."
