TEMPE, Ariz. –** Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota wasn't happy with how he played on Sunday.

His mother wasn't happy with how he acted when speaking to reporters after the game.

So on Wednesday, following the team's practice at Arizona State University, Mariota apologized.

"Real quick, I want to say I am sorry for the way handled the press conference," Mariota said at the start of his media availability. "I know not everybody that was there is here. But I was rude and inappropriate, and I just want to say I apologize for it.

"It's funny, because I got an earful from my mom. That's how I was raised and I appreciate you guys for understanding."

Mariota was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, three days after suffering a sprained left knee in the first half of the team's 12-7 loss to the Cardinals.

The Titans are now preparing for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, California.

Mariota completed 16-of-31 passes for 159 yards, with two interceptions, against the Cardinals.

After the game he said he was "pissed" after the loss. On Wednesday, Mariota said he was pretty upset with the way he performed.

His mindset now is to change the conversation.

Coach Mike Mularkey said Mariota did everything he normally would in a Wednesday practice.

"We were going to let him do as much as he wanted, and he took a normal amount of reps," Mularkey said. "It was good to see."

Mularkey caught the end of Mariota's apology on Wednesday, and said "it doesn't surprise me."

"I don't think it's a bad thing (he was upset)," Mularkey said. "I like that about a lot of guys on our team. I can tell you a couple of years ago it wasn't emotional after a loss. It is now. And I think it's a good thing the way this team is reacting."

On Wednesday, Mariota said he feels good health-wise.

"I'm good," he said.

And with three games left, he said he wants to help the Titans get back on track.

The team controls its own destiny in the AFC South playoff race.

"It was nice to get back on the field," Mariota said. "When you go through a little bit of a tough game, it is nice to just get back on the field and go out there and play. I enjoy going out there with the guys.

"… We want to take it one game at a time. It is hard not to look at the big picture, but all of our focus is on right now is going out there on Sunday against the 49ers and trying to get a win."
