NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans promoted LB Justin Staples from the practice squad to their 53-man roster. Additionally, the team added LB Yawin Smallwood to the practice squad.
Staples (6-4, 245) joined the Titans practice squad in September, after spending parts of the last two years with the Cleveland Browns practice squad. He originally joined the Browns as an undrafted college free agent from the University of Illinois. As a defensive end at Illinois, he totaled 36 games played during his three-year career.
Smallwood (6-4, 236) was a seventh-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons and was waived following this year's training camp. He was a three-year starter at middle linebacker for the University of Connecticut and was the Huskies leading tackler for his final two seasons. As a senior team captain, he earned first-team American Athletic Conference honors as he totaled 118 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and a team-leading four sacks.
