DENVER – The Titans have made a number of roster moves leading up to Monday night's season opener against the Broncos.
Among them: Cornerback Tye Smith has been promoted to the active roster from the practice squad as the team placed cornerback Adoree Jackson on Injured Reserve.
Jackson suffered a knee injury in Friday's practice, and was officially ruled out for tonight's game on Saturday. The new rules for Injured Reserve this season requires Jackson to miss at least three weeks before he's eligible to return.
Smith has played in 29 games for the Titans over the last three seasons, including playoff games. He joins cornerbacks Malcolm Butler, Johnathan Joseph, Kristian Fulton, Chris Jackson and Chris Milton on the roster.
Also on Monday, the Titans elevated running back Jeremy McNichols and receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine from the practice squad as the team's 54th and 55th player on the active roster. Both players will revert back to the team's practice squad following the game. This type of transaction was created by the NFL this year in the new CBA and allows teams the opportunity to elevate up to two players per week from their practice squad who are eligible to play in the that week's game.
On Saturday, the team ruled out running back Darrynton Evans for tonight's game.
The Titans have also added linebacker Daren Bates to the practice squad and removed linebacker Malik Jefferson and defensive back Chris Miller from the practice squad.
