TEAM NOTES
· The Titans defeated the Patriots 23-7 to improve their preseason record to 2-1. It was the third consecutive preseason in which the Titans finished 2-1.
· The victory improved Mike Vrabel's record as a head coach in preseason games to 8-9.
· The Titans now own an all-time preseason record against the Patriots of 7-1.
· The kickoff temperature was 92 degrees and a relative humidity of 56 percent, amounting to a heat index of 102 degrees.
· The Titans won the time-of-possession battle 38:38 to 21:22.
TEAM NOTES – OFFENSE
· The Titans converted half of their third-down attempts, going seven-of-14.
· The Titans offense totaled 368 yards, including 163 rushing yards and 205 passing yards.
· In three preseason contests, the Titans averaged 190.0 rushing yards, the highest for the team during any preseason since Mike Vrabel was hired as head coach in 2018.
TEAM NOTES – DEFENSE
· The Titans defense limited the Patriots offense to six total first downs, 79 total yards, 55 rushing yards and 24 net passing yards.
· The Titans totaled a preseason-high six sacks to conclude the preseason with 11 sacks in three games. The six sacks were the most by the Titans defense in a preseason game since Mike Vrabel became head coach in 2018.
· The defense limited the Patriots offense to three conversions on 11 third-down attempts (27.3 percent).
· The Titans forced fumbles on three of their six sacks. The Patriots recovered two of those three fumbles.
· The 24 net passing yards allowed by the Titans was the best defensive performance by an NFL team to date during the 2023 preseason and the best by any NFL defense in the preseason since the Titans allowed 21 net passing yards at Atlanta on Aug. 13, 2021.
· The 79 total net yards allowed by the Titans defense was the fewest allowed by any NFL defense in a preseason game since at least the beginning of the 2017 preseason.
ILB AZEEZ AL-SHAAIR
· Started in his Titans preseason debut and notched a pair of tackles.
DL DENICO AUTRY
· Started and totaled three tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.
· Notched a strip-sack to end New England's second drive, knocking the ball out of the hands of quarterback Bailey Zappe. The ball was recovered by defensive lineman Jayden Peevy and returned to New England's five-yard line to set up a Titans field goal.
K MICHAEL BADGLEY
· Made three of his four field goal attempts, connecting on kicks of 44 and 27 yards in the first quarter and 33 yards in the fourth quarter.
S KEVIN BYARD
· Started in his first action of the preseason and registered one tackle.
LB CHANCE CAMPBELL
· Tied for the team lead with four tackles.
RB JULIUS CHESTNUT
· Rushed for 30 yards on nine carries and added two receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.
· Totaled 72 yards of offense, bringing his preseason total to a team-leading 232 scrimmage yards (174 rushing and 58 receiving).
· Rushed for a 23-yard gain in the second quarter.
· Had two consecutive receptions totaling 42 yards and a touchdown late in the second quarter. First, he converted a third-and-nine with a 30-yard reception. On the next play, he scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Malik Willis with 15 seconds remaining in the half.
· Led the team during the preseason with 29 rushing attempts, 174 rushing yards, two receiving touchdowns and three total touchdowns. His five receptions during the preseason ranked second on the squad.
WR COLTON DOWELL
· Led the team with 49 receiving yards and tied for the team lead with two receptions.
· Caught a 30-yard pass from Malik Willis in the second quarter.
· Hauled in a pass from Willis for 19 yards in the third quarter.
DT MICHAEL DWUMFOUR
· Registered a team-high two sacks.
· Registered a five-yard sack in the second quarter, dropping Trace McSorley on third down.
· Added a three-yard sack in the fourth quarter.
CB KRISTIAN FULTON
· Started in his first action of the preseason and registered one tackle.
WR KEARIS JACKSON
· Scored on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Malik Willis in the fourth quarter.
· Added a 16-yard punt return.
· Led the team during the preseason with 77 yards on three kickoff returns.
WR MASON KINSEY
· Rushed for 12 yards on two attempts and added a seven-yard punt return.
· Led the team with eight receptions and 77 receiving yards during the preseason.
OLB HAROLD LANDRY III
· Started in his first live action since the 2021 season and notched one tackle.
OLB CALEB MURPHY
· Registered a strip-sack on quarterback Bailey Zappe in the fourth quarter, but the ball was recovered by the Patriots. The play went for a three-yard loss.
· It was the third consecutive game of his rookie preseason with at least one sack.
· Led the team in the preseason with four total sacks.
CB SEAN MURPHY-BUNTING
· Started in his Titans preseason debut.
OLB SAM OKUAYINONU
· Tied for the team lead with four tackles.
RB JACQUES PATRICK
· Led the team with 76 rushing yards on 15 attempts, including a 21-yard carry in the fourth quarter.
· Added two receptions for 18 yards to give him 94 scrimmage yards in the contest.
DT JAYDEN PEEVY
· Tied for the team lead with four tackles and added a fumble recovery.
· Recovered a fumble in the first quarter to set up a Titans field goal. On New England's second drive, he scooped up the ball after Denico Autry forced a fumble by quarterback Bailey Zappe, and Peevy returned the ball eight yards to New England's five-yard line.
DT KYLE PEKO
· Registered a strip-sack in the fourth quarter on quarterback Bailey Zappe. He dropped Zappe for a six-yard loss on third down and forced a fumble on the play, but the ball was recovered by the Patriots.
· Totaled a pair of tackles.
RB TYJAE SPEARS
· Totaled nine carries for 28 yards and added two receptions for 13 yards.
· Rushed for a 19-yard gain in the first quarter.
· Totaled 22 carries for 117 yards and one touchdown in three preseason games. He also caught four passes for 20 yards and had a 22-yard kickoff return.
P RYAN STONEHOUSE
· Averaged 59.5 yards (56.5 net) on two punts with one punt placed inside the 20.
· Helped back up the Patriots at their own three-yard with a 63-yard punt in the fourth quarter.
QB RYAN TANNEHILL
· Saw action for the first time during the preseason, starting and playing the first series, which consisted of three handoffs.
OLB RASHAD WEAVER
· Totaled two tackles, including a sack.
· Sacked Bailey Zappe for a five-yard loss in the first quarter. The sack, which came on third down to end the Patriots' drive, gave Weaver two consecutive preseason games with a sack.
WR NICK WESTBROOK-IKHINE
· Started his third consecutive preseason game.
· Caught a 22-yard pass from Malik Willis to help set up a field goal in the first quarter.
QB MALIK WILLIS
· Completed 15 of 20 passes (75 percent) for 211 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for a 102.3 passer rating. He added 17 rushing yards on eight attempts.
· Played every series after Ryan Tannehill opened the game as the starter.
· Completed a 30-yard pass to Colton Dowell in the second quarter to convert a third down.
· Late in the second quarter, converted a third-and-nine with a 30-yard completion to Julius Chestnut, and on the next play, he tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Chestnut with 15 seconds remaining in the half.
· Rolled right and completed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Kearis Jackson in the fourth quarter.
· Led the team during the preseason with 485 passing yards, completing 41 of 62 passes with three touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed for 130 yards and a score on 22 attempts during the preseason.
