Titans Notes from Day 1 of the NFL Draft

TITANS NOTES FROM DAY 1 OF THE 2009 NFL DRAFT:**

· The 2009 NFL Draft is the 50th selection process in the history of the Tennessee Titans/Houston Oilers.

· The 2009 draft is the third by the Titans under current general manager Mike Reinfeldt.

· Kenny Britt became the first wide receiver drafted by the Titans in the first round since 1998, when the team selected Kevin Dyson with the 16th overall pick. Britt is only the third wide receiver drafted in the first round by the team in its history, joining Dyson and Haywood Jeffires (1987, 20th overall).

· Prior to selecting Kenny Britt, the last time the Titans picked 30th overall was 2000, when they drafted linebacker Keith Bulluck, another product of the Big East Conference (Syracuse).

· Kenny Britt became the first Rutgers player ever to be selected in the first round of the draft.

· From 2008 to 2009, the Titans spent consecutive first-round picks on offensive players (running back Chris Johnson and wide receiver Kenny Britt) for the first time since taking quarterback Steve McNair in 1995 and Eddie George in 1996.

· Sen'Derrick Marks became the 12th player the Titans franchise has drafted out of Auburn University. Auburn is now tied for fourth place among schools producing the most Titans/Oilers draft picks (Houston, Penn State, Rice and Texas A&M), behind only Texas (20), Oklahoma (14) and Baylor (13).

· Sen'Derrick Marks is the first Auburn defensive lineman drafted by the Titans since Gary Walker in 1995 (fifth round, 159thoverall).

· The Titans have selected a defensive tackle in the second round for two consecutive seasons after selecting Jason Jones in 2008 and Sen'Derrick Marks in 2009.

· The Titans came out of the first two rounds of the draft with an offensive and a defensive player for the third consecutive year: safety Michael Griffin and RB Chris Henry in 2007; running back Chris Johnson and defensive tackle Jason Jones in 2008; wide receiver Kenny Britt and defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks in 2009.

· The Titans own eight picks heading into Day 2 of the draft (one selection in Rounds 3 and 5, two selections in Rounds 4, 6 and 7).
