The evening ceremony, which took place at the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza, recognized individuals and organizations that have made a difference in reducing poverty, or for advocating on behalf of Montgomery County's low-income residents. Specifically, the Henry L. Dixon Award recognizes involvement in activities that, through a group volunteer effort, helps low-income individuals in Montgomery County move toward or achieve self-sufficiency.

Fokou's Root 53 Foundation was created in 2012 to provide hands-on learning opportunities for the at-risk youth in urban Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Tennessee regions.  Many of the children growing up in these areas are less privileged and do not receive the attention or resources they require to succeed. Fokou's mission through his Root 53 Foundation is to make a difference for these children and their families. For more information about Root 53, visit www.Root53Foundation.org.
