NASHVILLE, Tenn. -** With a succcessful off-season about to conclude, Titans head coach Jeff Fisher suprised his players on the final day of organized team activities.

He lightened the mood by ending Friday's practice 30 minutes early, while engaging the team in a game of powerball, a tug-of-war and a punt-catching contest between the offensive and defensive lines. Players also did individual work at different positions -- a change of pace from the normal OTAs that began in May.

It was a way of Fisher saying thanks to his players, who enjoyed one of their best off-seasons to date, while enduring hot, grueling practices over the last two weeks.

"We were pleased as a staff as far as everything that we got done," Fisher said. "It's the last day and participation has been great, so we had a long meeting with them this morning regarding what is ahead as far as the next four or five weeks and what is expected of them. We just came out and wanted to have a little bit of fun."

Titans rookies will be attending the rookie symposium this weekend and the team's practice facility will remain open through July 15 for voluntary supervised workouts prior to a dead period leading up to the start of training camp July 31..

"I look forward to this time off a lot," linebacker Keith Bulluck said. "It's definitely good to get away and get some time to yourself. You get to spend time with your family, train, work hard and get yourself ready to play. I'm going to do all three and definitely come back ready to play."

The Titans only have a short window once training camp opens to be ready for the Hall of Fame Game against Buffalo in Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 9.

Quarterback Kerry Collins said the team is looking forward to getting away.

"It will be a good break. Everybody has worked hard this offseason and we'll come back to training camp ready to go," said Collins, who plans on traveling to North Carolina for a family beach trip. "I'll probably come back 10 days or two weeks early to get back in the swing of things and make sure I'm ready to go once training camp starts."

Several players simply plan on recharging their batteries.

"I don't have any plans," said defensive tackle Tony Brown. "I'm just going to take care of myself and try to get as much rest as I can because it's going to be a long season. A lot of players look forward to this time not only to take care of themselves, but to spend time with their families and kids and get a little traveling in because they know it's going to be jail-tight once the season starts."

That's exactly what wide receiver Nate Washington has in mind.

"I'll stay in touch with the guys, but for the most part I'll be at home with my family trying to get a little time in with them before it's time to get back to the grind," he said. "We need this time not only for our bodies, but also mentally."

With a successful offseason program that began in March now in the books, players can begin to firmly establish their goals for the upcoming season.

"We've been working hard all offseason and I think it went by fast," tight end Bo Scaife said. "We have this next month to sit back and reflect on the challenges ahead of us and we just want to come back ready."
