The Colts' inactive list included three starting defensive linemen: Pro Bowl ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, and tackle Eric Foster. Also sitting out were safeties Bob Sanders, the 2007 Defensive Player of the Year, and Melvin Bullitt; running back Dominic Rhodes and linebackers Freddy Keiaho and Gary Brackett.
Tennessee (13-2) took a similar tack. It deactivated Pro Bowl center Kevin Mawae, defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, defensive ends Kyle Vanden Bosch and Dave Ball, running back Chris Johnson, linebacker David Thornton, cornerback Nick Harper and receiver Justin Gage.
None of the inactive players was a major surprise because Sunday's outcome will have no bearing on either team's playoff position.
The Colts also waived linebacker Rufus Alexander and signed running back Lance Ball, a rookie from Maryland. The move was intended to give Indy more depth in the backfield with Rhodes out because of a chest injury and Joseph Addai still recovering from a right shoulder injury.
