NASHVILLE, TN, Dec. 23, 2008 —Titans cornerback Chris Carr and his wife, Sarah, greeted Titans fans as they participated in the Opening Night Premiere of the Nashville Ballet's Nutcracker. The premiere was marked with an 1897 Centennial Streetscape where ballet patrons could stroll down "Main Street" Nashville as it might have been 100 years ago. Falling snowflakes, costumed ice skaters, carolers and the opportunity to meet Chris "Kringle" Carr as Father Christmas made a special evening for those attending the event.!

This original production replaces the old*Nutcracker*that had delighted thousands of Middle Tennesseans for over 18 years. The new version is set during the time of the 1897 Tennessee Exposition, and the audience will recognize many local influences, such as the Parthenon and Shelby Bottoms Pond. Clara's home is based on the interior of the Belle Meade Mansion, and many historical figures and families have been included.

Nashville Ballet Artist Director Paul Vasterling came up with the concept and choreography for this new version and assembled a national team of designers to bring it to life. Much of the work on the costumes was done in the southeast. The Nashville Ballet Costume shop, housed within the Sylvan Park campus, has been busily sewing since July, constructing the youth cast costumes, many of the Act I period pieces and the Chinese dancers.
This is a delightful new rendition of the world's most popular ballet, complete with mice and toy soldiers come-to-life along with dozens of fantastic characters who carry the audience through a fantasy of snow and ice, grandiose gardens, and a magical land of sweets and treats.
