NASHVILLE, Tenn. —The Tennessee Titans signed QB Alex Tanney from the Indianapolis Colts practice squad and placed DT Mike Martin on injured reserve.
Tanney (6-4, 220) re-joins the Titans who originally signed him for the final two games of the 2014 season and remained with the team through training camp this year. He was waived following preseason (he was 18-25 for 221 yards, two touchdowns and 125.6 rating in preseason) and spent time on the practice squad with both Buffalo and Indianapolis. Tanney was on the roster of a number of NFL teams, including Kansas City, Dallas and Cleveland, but he has not played in a regular season game. He entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with the Chiefs in 2012. He played in 47 games at Monmouth and set NCAA Division III career marks with 14,249 passing yards and 157 touchdowns.
Additionally, the team added QB Bryn Renner and WR Gavin Lutman to the practice squad and released QB Mike Kafka and WR Rico Richardson from the practice squad.
Renner (6-3, 225) spent time with Denver and Baltimore after entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He started 28 games during his career at the University of North Carolina where he threw for 8,221 yards and 64 touchdowns and registered 10 300-yard games.
Lutman (6-2, 211) played his college football at Pittsburg State, where he totaled 130 receptions for 2,068 yards and 18 touchdowns during his career. He signed as an undrafted college free agent with the Minnesota Vikings this past May and was waived from injured reserve at the end of September.
