NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans announced today that Dr. David Moore has been appointed as a team physician. Dr. Moore assumes the role formerly held by Dr. Burton Elrod. The three current team physicians, Dr. Thomas Byrd, Dr. Craig Rutland, and Dr. John Williams, remain on staff.
"We are excited to add Dr. Moore to our medical team," said Titans General Manager Jon Robinson. "Dr. Moore joins an already top-flight crew of medical professionals, and we look forward to his contributions to our team. We would also like to thank Dr. Elrod for his years of distinguished service for the Titans and wish him well in the future."
"For 19 years, Dr. Elrod has dedicated himself to caring for the Tennessee Titans family," said Dr. Moore. "I am honored to join the Titans sports medicine team, and to continue the tradition of excellence in care and commitment to service that he started."
"I am thankful for the opportunity the Titans organization has given me to work with their NFL Team for the last 19 years," said Dr. Elrod. "It's been a wild ride; from the highs of the Music City Miracle and Super Bowl to the lows of losing Steve McNair. After twenty-plus weekends a year and almost 400 NFL games, it's time for a break. I'm leaving the Titans with what I consider the best team doctors, consultants, and trainers in the NFL. I think the Titans have turned the corner and the glory days are coming back. I am going to enjoy watching the Titans win and not having to work the games."
Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Moore attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on the prestigious Morehead Scholarship. While at UNC he majored in Biology and Economics and was a member of the Men's Varsity Soccer Team (4-year Monogram Winner). He continued his studies at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN, where he earned his medical degree and performed his internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Moore completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship with Dr. James Andrews at the American Sports Medicine Institute (AMSI) in Birmingham, AL, where he served as Team Physician for Tuskegee University and Assistant Team Physician for the Washington Redskins.
Dr. Moore is board certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Dr. Moore specializes in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. He is currently a team physician for Lipscomb Academy and Lipscomb University, and he served as head team physician for the Nashville Predators from 2007-2008.
