ORLANDO — The Titans have found their back-up plan at quarterback.

The Titans have agreed to terms with veteran quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who visited the team's facility last week. The two sides then reached a deal late Monday night.

"We thought after the evaluation process that Blaine was somebody who had the skills necessary, physically," Titans coach Mike Vrabel said on Tuesday from the NFL owners meetings. "He was a little younger.

"I like his mobility. So we are excited to work with him."

Gabbert, a seven-year veteran, played last season with the Arizona Cardinals after playing previously with the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Gabbert (6-4, 235) is in line to back-up starting quarterback Marcus Mariota with the Titans.

Earlier this offseason the Titans parted ways with quarterback Matt Cassel, the team's No.2 quarterback the previous two seasons.

Vrabel said he's confident in Gabbert in the event he's needed.

A year ago, Mariota started all but one games for the Titans. He was injured at the end of his first two NFL seasons.

"If you use the metrics, the analytics, clearly that would say that you are probably are going to have to use a back-up quarterback," Vrabel said. "Nobody would like to use a back-up quarterback. Everybody would like the quarterback to play 20 games and be in the Super Bowl. But we have to be able to get everybody ready to be able to go into the game and be able to execute at a high level."

A first-round pick by the Jaguars (10th overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft, Gabbert has started 45 games in his NFL career, completing 781-of-1,397 passes for 44 touchdowns and 43 interceptions, with a 71.5 rating.

Gabbert started five games last season for the Cardinals, and he completed 95-of-171 passes for 1,086 yards, with six touchdowns and eight interceptions, and a 71.9 rating. He was the starting quarterback in Arizona's 12-7 win over the Titans on December 10, two weeks after throwing for 241 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Jacksonville.

Gabbert also ran for 82 yards on 22 carries last season, and has 631 rushing yards in his career.

Gabbert started 27 games over his first three seasons with the Jaguars (2011-13) before spending three seasons with the 49ers, where he started 13 games over three seasons (2014-16).

Gabbert played collegiately at Missouri, where he threw for 6,822 yards and 40 touchdowns. He was the third quarterback taken in the 2011 NFL Draft, behind Cam Newton (1st, Carolina) and Jake Locker (8th, Tennessee).

In addition to Mariota and Gabbert, the Titans also have quarterbacks Alex Tanney and Tyler Ferguson on the roster.
