NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans have added some beef – and an experienced veteran – in the middle of their defensive line with the addition of former Broncos nose tackle Sylvester Williams.

The Titans and Williams have officially agreed to terms on a deal. He's Tennessee's sixth new addition since the start of free agency.

"Sly is a big, mature and athletic man, who plays with a good motor," said Titans General Manager Jon Robinson. "In the lead-up to the 2013 Draft, I was able to work him out when he came out of North Carolina and he has the ability to two-gap, but also has some quicks to penetrate. Watching him against some of the better offensive lines last year, he played well and we are looking forward to adding him to our group."

A first-round pick by the Broncos in the 2013 NFL Draft, Williams has played in 60 games over the past four seasons, with 48 starts. He started all 16 games last season for the Broncos, when he recorded 29 tackles and a sack.

The 6-foot-2, 313-pound Williams is expected to play in the middle of Tennessee's defensive line.

The Broncos tried to re-sign Williams to a multiyear deal, according to KUSU in Denver. Last May, the Broncos declined to exercise his $6.757 option for the 2017 season.

Williams has started in two Super Bowls in his career, including Super Bowl 50, when he won a championship ring.

In his career, he's tallied 94 tackles and six sacks.

The Titans recently released defensive lineman Al Woods.

Williams was a first-team All-America performer at North Carolina before being selected with the 28th overall pick of the draft in 2013.

"He strengthens the middle of our defense," Robinson said of Williams. "He has some quickness to him, he's not just a plugger in there. He can penetrate, he can get on the edge, center or guard. He gives you a little pressure rushing the passer. He's another mature, dependable guy."
