NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Titans on Tuesday made some roster moves after the first wave of training camp.
The team added defensive linemen Johnny Maxey and Du'Vonta Lampkin to their roster.
Also, the Titans placed cornerback Tye Smith on injured reserve and waived (with injury) defensive lineman Claude Pelon.
Smith and Pelon were injured in recent practices.
Maxey (6-5, 283) was on the Titans practice squad for the final month of the 2017 season and was waived this past April. He also has experience with the Pittsburgh Steelers -- both the practice squad and active roster -- including two games played in 2016. Maxey started his NFL career as an undrafted college free agent in 2016 with the Steelers. He played his college football at Mars Hill.
Lampkin (6-4, 335) is an undrafted college free agent, who participated in the Ravens rookie mini-camp following the 2018 NFL Draft. He played two seasons with the Oklahoma Sooners and declared for the Draft following his redshirt sophomore year. In his two years playing at Oklahoma, Lampkin totaled 28 tackles, seven tackles for loss and one sack in 17 career games.
Pelon, formerly with the Jets, was added to the roster at the start of training camp.
The loss of Smith, who played in 15 games last season, is a tough one. Smith added quality depth behind Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, and Adoree' Jackson at cornerback. In 2017, Smith played quality, significant snaps in big games, and started the team's two playoff contests.
Cornerback LeShaun Sims has experience at the position, and has been mostly solid. Behind him a group of young players are battling for roster spots, including Kalan Reed and a trio of undrafted free agents -- Rico Gafford, Joseph Este and Jarell Carter.
