NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans just wrapped up practice on Friday at St. Thomas Sports Park.
On Sunday, the team will face the Texans.
Three quick hits after today's practice…
Mettenberger Ready for a Win
Zach Mettenberger – not Marcus Mariota – will start at quarterback for the Titans on Sunday against the Texans.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt made the announcement after Friday's practice.
Mettenberger also started last week's game against the Falcons while Mariota sat out with an injured knee.
After practice on Friday, Mettenberger was asked about his record as a starter, and how much he'd like to get a win. The Titans haven't won in Mettenberger's seven career starts dating back to last season. He was 0-6 in 2014 as a starter.
"To quote coach (Herm) Edwards – you play the game to win,'' Mettenberger said. "Losing is not fun. It is definitely not what I work for and I am just going to keep grinding until I can turn it around and get a win."
Mettenberger completed 22-of-35 passes for 187 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions, in Sunday's 10-7 loss to the Falcons. He threw an interception at the end of the game, however.
"When the situation needs me to be the player to make the play for our team,'' Mettenberger said, "(I need) to take full advantage of it and make those plays and put us in the best position to win the game."
Cox: I'll be Back Next Week
The Titans ruled out cornerback Perrish Cox for Sunday's game.
Cox also missed last week's game against the Falcons. He's dealing with a hamstring injury.
"Next week is kind of my 'for sure' date in my opinion,'' Cox said. "I have never had a leg injury before, but it is feeling way better. Hopefully next week will be my go date."
The Titans face the Saints on November 8.
Injury Update
Whisenhunt also ruled out receiver Harry Douglas (ribs) for Sunday's game.
Center Andy Gallik returned to practice on Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday, and he's close to clearing the final hurdle in the concussion protocol. Still, veteran Joe Looney is an option at center against the Texans.
Cornerback Jason McCourty (hamstring), safety Michael Griffin (knee) and defensive tackle Sammie Hill all practiced on Friday and Whisenhunt indicated he expected they'll all be available for Sunday's game.
