The camp will feature six hours of expert instructions from Thornton, along with local high school coaches and D1 training experts. In addition, the David Thornton Defensive Skills Camp will focus on character- building instruction and life skills. Each participant will also receive lunch, camp t-shirt and the opportunity to win other prizes.
"The concept is great -- improving football fundamentals -- but more importantly, building Godly character," said Thornton. "I look forward to serving and sharing."
Thornton, who was named the 2008 Titans Walter Payton Man of the Year for his work off the field, has held a camp in his hometown of Goldsboro, N.C. for the past three years. In addition to countless other community events, Thornton has been extremely involved with Nashville's Martha O'Bryan Center donating meals at Thanksgiving, hosting a shoe give-away during the winter and encouraging youth in the classroom.
On the football field, he was drafted in the fourth round in the 2002 draft by the Indianapolis Colts, and signed as a free agent with the Titans in 2006. His career totals include 656 tackles, four sacks, five interceptions and seven forced fumbles in 95 games.
"I'm so excited to be partnering with D1 to conduct this football camp," said Thornton. "I have done camps in North Carolina at my high school the past three years, but I've always wanted to host a camp here in Nashville - this is the time!"
The cost of the camp will be $99 for the general public and $79 for D1 members. The registration deadline is Monday, June 1. For online registration or more info, go to D1SportsTraining.com/Nashville or contact Mike Gregory at 615.415.4747 or mike.gregory@d1sportstraining.com.
