NASHVILLE – Robert Woods got a big ovation from the team's fan base during his first public appearance at the Titans Foundation Dinner.
The veteran receiver, acquired in a trade with the Rams earlier this offseason, made it clear he's happy to be a part of the team, and community.
"This is a great organization, that winning attitude," Woods said at the event. "It's the mindset and attitude you want to be a part of, and you want to have that grit. … And, being a part of this community means a lot to me.
"I want to bring my attitude and my game to build on what they were already doing. … I wanted to be a part of that Tennessee Titans tradition."
So far, the initial impressions from Woods, and the Titans, have been good.
"(I like the attitude) in the weight room, in the training room, in the rehab, guys getting back," Woods said of the Titans. "Guys wanting to be here in voluntary workouts, that's the attitude that it takes to win and win championships and I think this team has it and we just have to build together and do it."
Titans GM Jon Robinson, speaking at Wednesday night's event, said Woods is fitting right in.
"It's been fun to watch him work," Robinson said. "I looked out my window and they were doing some red zone stuff in Phase One and he's being the SAM linebacker, and he's showing the tight end, 'This is where the SAM is going to be in this coverage so you need to adjust your route and do this.'
"He's just a consummate pro, and he's everything we're about. He's helping our younger players and we're excited to see him on the field."
In his NFL career, Woods has played in 125 career games, with 115 starts, in nine NFL seasons with the Rams (2017-2021) and Bills (2013-2016). He's recorded 570 catches for 7,077 yards and 35 touchdowns in his playing career and he also has 74 career rushing attempts for 507 yards and five touchdowns.
So, how is Woods feeling, and recovering?
A two-time captain with the Rams, Woods totaled 367 receptions for 4,626 yards and 23 touchdowns in 68 games in five seasons in Los Angeles.
But his 2021 season was cut short because of a season-ending knee surgery last November, and he's been rehabbing and working his way back ever since.
"I actually feel like they're kind of holding me back a little bit," Woods said with a smile. "I am trying to get back as well as I can, just doing everything (trainer) Todd Toriscelli has me doing, trying to stay focused and be patient with it. Right now I feel really, really good, getting going, being able to do some things.
"But really my main goal is to be ready, and be back in tip-top shape. I just want to be ready to go when it is time. It is a long season, and you have to be prepared to go every single game and be prepared to last and be explosive."
