Observations From Thursday's Practice at Titans Camp

24-pollard-practice

NASHVILLE – The Titans took the field for their ninth open practice of training camp on Thursday at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park.

Here's a look at what stood out:

-The Titans practiced in pads for the sixth session in a row.

-The Titans o-linemen and d-linemen worked on drills with a pass rush emphasis early, while the skill players worked on 7-on-7 drills. The Titans spent the bulk of practice in unscripted "Move the Ball" periods, with all three quarterbacks getting work. The Titans also worked in a competitive "Red Zone Lockout" team period. The team also spent time in a pair of special teams periods, including a field goal period at the end of practice. The Titans also spent a lot of time working on kickoffs.

-Titans Coach Brian Callahan gave a pretty good run-down on what to expect in the team's preseason opener against the 49ers on Saturday night, as far as playing time goes. Callahan said the plan is for the front-liners to suit up and play in some part of the game. Callahan said he'd like the starters to play "a series or two," depending on how things go. Callahan said the plan is for all three quarterbacks to play on Saturday night.

-Callahan said edge Harold Landry and defensive linemen Harold Landry won't play against the 49ers, and neither will punter Ryan Stonehouse. Some of the players who've missed recent practices also won't play, Callahan said.

-In today's session, the defense caused three turnovers in a competitive session. All three of the team's quarterbacks threw an interception on Thursday.

-Linebacker Luke Gifford intercepted two passes, including one when he stepped in front of a Mason Rudolph pass and sprinted the other way. It was a great read by Gifford, who read Rudolph's eyes and stepped in front of the slot receiver to make the pick. Gifford then picked off Will Levis on a throw across the middle in 7-on-7.

-Levis completed 12-of-15 passes with the INT in today's practice, including 9-of-11 in team work and 3-of-4 in 7-on-7 drills. I now have Levis 106-of-150 with five interceptions in 7-on-7 and team periods combined in camp.

-The running backs once again made some impressive runs, including a Tony Pollard sprint to the corner of the end zone to finish off a drive engineered by Levis.

-Running back Tyjae Spears showcased a double jump-cut on one touchdown run late, which was very impressive. Spears started off the first team period with a touchdown run.

-Quarterback Mason Rudolph was 8-of-11 in today's practice, including 4-of-4 in 7-on-7 work and 4-of-7 in team drills, I now have Rudolph at 82-of-98 with two interceptions in the 7-on-7 and team drills in camp.

-I've said in here many times receiver Mason Kinsey has been making plays, and generating some buzz in practices. Kinsey did it again on Thursday, as he got behind the defense and made a touchdown catch in the corner of the end zone on a beautifully thrown ball by Rudolph. Kinsey was looking for someone to celebrate with, and Ben Arthur from FOX Sports was the closest guy in the vicinity. Kinsey went Kirk Cousins on Arthur, giving him a "You Like That!" before sticking his hand out for a low-five. Arthur smiled and extended his arm, a funny scene in the corner of the side field at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park.

-Defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day busted into the backfield and blew up a Pollard run early in the session.

-I had tight end Chig Okonkwo with three catches, which tied for the highest on this day with receiver Kearis Jackson.

-Noticed a nice snag from receiver Treylon Burks.

-Big defensive lineman T'Vondre Sweat chased Levis when he broke free on the line of scrimmage.

-Quarterback Malik Willis was 9-of-16 on the day with an interception, including 6-of-12 in team and 3-of-4 in 7-on-7 drills. I now have Willis 61-of-93 in 7-on-7 and team work so far in camp, with three interceptions.

-Cornerback Gabe Jeudy-Lally jumped a route by Jha'Quan Jackson and intercepted Willis, and he raced the other way. Jeudy-Lally broke up a Willis pass earlier in the session.

-Mike Brown had a nice break-up on a pass intended for Okonkwo.

-Cornerback Tre Avery was flagged for a defensive pass interference penalty while working against Treylon Burks.

-Defensive back Robert Javier was flagged for DPI while working against Kearis Jackson.

-Running backs Julius Chestnut and Jabari Small produced some nice runs as well.

-Kicker Brayden Narveson handled all the field goals on Thursday, and he was a perfect 6-of-6, with makes from 27, 33, 33, 36, 45, and 55 yards. Narveson is now 15-of-19 in camp. Kicker Nick Folk is 20-of-22 on field goals so far in camp.

-Caleb Farley is dealing with a hamstring injury, and he's expected to miss several weeks, per Callahan.

-In addition to Farley, receiver DeAndre Hopkins (knee), Chidobe Awuzie (calf), safety Jamal Adams (soreness), cornerback L'Jarius Sneed (rest), cornerback Anthony Kendall, linebacker JoJo Domann (back), lineman Leroy Watson (knee), linebacker Cedric Gray (shoulder), tight end Nick Vannett (rest), and receiver Tre'Shaun Harrison did not practice.

-Linebacker Garret Wallow, out for the season with a pec injury, also did not practice. He has not yet been placed on Injured Reserve.

-Receiver Colton Dowell began camp on the team's Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and did not practice.

-Charles Davis, who will work Saturday's game for the WKRN broadcast, was on hand for SIRIUSXMNFL interviews, alongside Mike Keith of Titans Radio.

-Evan Washburn of CBS Sports attended today's session.

-Fans affiliated with the Titans Foundation, members of the military and season ticket holders were among those who attended today's practice.

-The Titans are scheduled for a walk thru on Friday, ahead of Saturday's preseason opener vs the 49ers.

Next open practice: Wednesday, 10-noon with Seahawks.
