Observations From the Final Open Practice of Titans Camp on Thursday

NASHVILLE – The Titans took the field for their 13th open practice of training camp on Thursday at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park.

It was the final open practice of camp.

Here's a look at what stood out:

-While Titans o-linemen and d-linemen worked in 1-on-1s with a pass rush emphasis, the skill players worked in a 7-on-7 period after first taking part in individual drills. The Titans then worked in a two-minute, end of half period with this scenario: 1:36 left, 1 time out, own 30-yard line. Following a 12-play team period, the Titans then worked in a special teams period, on kickoffs. The Titans then worked in a team Red Zone Lockout period, followed by a two-minute period with these guidelines: Ball at own 25-yard-line, need a FG, with 1:50 left and a time out. Practice ended with a field goal period.

-Receiver Treylon Burks returned to practice and showed no signs that he'd left practice early the day before with an injury. Coach Brian Callahan said he's OK. Burks left practice early Wednesday when he landed hard from a jump to catch the football. Burks stayed on the ground for a bit before getting up, and he held his back/hip area while walking on his own. Burks had a nice catch on a slant on Thursday.

-Edge rusher Arden Key did not practice after tweaking his hamstring. Callahan said he doesn't think it's bad, and the hope is he'll be back next week.

-Titans quarterback Will Levis didn't have his best day, although he finished better than he started. Levis was 1-of-4 in the first 7-on-7 period, throwing two balls that could have been picked off, in fact. Another pass slipped out of his right hand and it rolled to the sideline. On the first play of a team 2-minute period, Levis sailed one over the head of Calvin Ridley on what appeared to be miscommunication between the two. Levis finished that series 4-of-8, and the Titans offense ended it with a field goal by Nick Folk. The Titans went 3-and-out on another team period. Levis had to throw a few balls into the dirt because of defensive pressure. The highlight of the day for Levis was a completion to receiver Calvin Ridley for a touchdown. Levis completed four straight passes late before a drive fizzled out, and ended with a fourth down incompletion. I had Levis 14-of-26 for the day – 1-of-4 in the 7-on-7 and 13-of-22 on team. By my count, Levis completed 159-of-245 passes with eight interceptions in 7-on-7 and team periods combined in camp.

-Ridley had three catches on the day, including the touchdown. But a number of Levis passes to him landed incomplete, primarily because they were off target.

-Receiver Tyler Boyd had one of the best days of all the receivers on Thursday, as he caught four passes on the day. Boyd was really involved in the last two practices of camp.

-Quarterback Mason Rudolph completed 11-of-16 passes on the day, including 4-of-4 in 7-on-7 and 7-of-12 in team periods. Rudolph completed 125-of-157 passes with two interceptions in the 7-on-7 and team drills in camp.

-It seems like I notice edge rusher Jaylen Harrell every day. I had Harrell with a sack of Levis, and he was around the football all day.

-Running back Julius Chestnut had a nice run that might've been a touchdown in a game, but officials marked him down.

-Quarterback Malik Willis was 10-of-13 on the day, with an interception. Willis was 4-of-4 himself in 7-on-7, and 6-of-9 in team periods. In 13 camp practices, I had Willis completing 90-of-139 passes in 7-on-7 and team work, with four interceptions.

-It was defensive back Keaton Ellis who picked off Willis, on a ball that was deflected.

-Speaking of deflected passes, big defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons knocked down a Levis pass at the line of scrimmage, and he let him know about it.

-Linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. got into the backfield for a would-be sack of Levis in the two-minute period.

-Linebacker Jack Gibbens got his hands on the football on a Levis pass downfield, knocking it down.

-Receiver Bryce Oliver ended camp on a roll, with a practice-high five catches.

-Defensive back Jarvis Brownlee Jr. nearly had a pick early in practice.

-Safety Amani Hooker nearly intercepted Levis in a deflected pass.

-Kicker Nick Folk was a perfect 5-of-5 on Thursday, with a long of 51, and he finished camp 31-of-33 on field goals. Kicker Brayden Narveson was 21-of-28 in camp.

-Cornerback Caleb Farley (hamstring), receiver DeAndre Hopkins (knee), Chidobe Awuzie (calf), cornerback L'Jarius Sneed (rest), linebacker JoJo Domann (back), linebacker Cedric Gray (shoulder), tight end Josh Whyle (concussion), defensive lineman TK McLendon (toe), receiver Kyle Philips (hamstring), linebacker Otis Reese IV (concussion), receiver Kearis Jackson (knee), linebacker Luke Gifford (concussion) and receiver Tre'Shaun Harrison did not practice.

-Running back Jabari Small and edge Caleb Murphy returned to practice after missing on Wednesday.

-Offensive lineman Corey Levin was held out for precautionary reasons.

-Receiver Mason Kinsey has a broken pinkie finger, but he was at practice with a device on his hand.

-Receiver Colton Dowell began camp on the team's Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and did not practice.

-Game officials worked today's practice.

Next up: Preseason game No.3, at New Orleans on Sunday.
