NASHVILLE, Tenn. —Delanie Walker said breaks like the mini one the Titans are coming off from last week's Thursday Night Football game can be good and bad.
He didn't like the lapse in activity time, but did appreciate the opportunity to review film from each of the Tennessee's games this season. Like the break, Walker said he saw good and bad in the footage.
"I needed to see what I was doing wrong and good to better myself," Walker said. "Doing little things, finishing my blocks, making sure my guy doesn't get on the tackle, running my routes full speed, what did I do right here to make him throw the ball to me?"
Walker had multiple answers to that question in the Titans' most recent game when he caught 10 passes on 10 targets by Ryan Fitzpatrick for 91 yards and a touchdown. Walker became the first Titans player to have 10 catches in one game since Bo Scaife did so against the Bears on Nov. 9, 2008.
"Hopefully we can keep that going. My off time, I just watched film of myself to see what I could do to stay on that type of path and have those types of games," Walker said. "I felt if I could have those types of games, we can help this team out by putting points on the board, so I'm looking forward to this week and seeing what the coaches have in the game plan for me because I think it's a great opportunity for us to go out there and showcase what we can really do and put some points on the board."
Tennessee (4-6) visits Oakland (4-6) at 3:05 p.m. CT/1:05 p.m. PT in a game that is critical to both teams' chances of making a push for a spot in the playoffs. There are six teams with that record in the AFC, along with the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins at 5-5, and Buffalo at 4-7 that are considered in the running for the sixth and final postseason slot.
The Titans returned to practice Tuesday with a fast pace, Walker said.
"Guys were out there running pretty hard, making some spectacular catches, and you like to see that coming off a three-day little vacation," Walker said. "That talks louder to me than you running your mouth, talking yippety yap and going out and having a terrible practice. When you show up and don't have to say anything but we can see it, that means a lot to everybody."
FOKOU PRACTICES: Titans coach Mike Munchak said linebacker Moise Fokou "did a lot of reps with the defense" in Tuesday's practice, and Tennessee is hoping Fokou will be available for at least some action against the Raiders. Fokou hasn't played since injuring his knee at Seattle on Oct. 13.
"We need to get him back in there; hopefully he'll be a big part of the game Sunday. A lot will be determined by how he handles Wednesday and Thursday and how his knee does before we make that final decision," Munchak said. "The good thing is he's out there, he's working. We've just got to see where he's at and how much can we realistically expect him to do on Sunday, how many reps could he play, that type of thing. I mean, he's used to playing every snap, so we'd have to take a look at where he's at by Friday and decide."
Colin McCarthy has started the four games Fokou has missed and recorded 40 tackles, an interception and forced a fumble in that span.
Munchak said splitting playing time between Fokou and McCarthy could be a possibility.
WALTER UNAVAILABLE THIS SEASON: Munchak said Kevin Walter, who signed with the Titans this offseason, will not be able to play this season.
Tennessee was at a deadline to make that determination on Walter, who has been on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing back surgery this summer.
Munchak said he was disappointed for the 11-year veteran who hadn't missed more than two games in any of the previous nine seasons and for the Titans' offense.
"We expected him to come in and really be helpful. That physical nature we were talking about back in the offseason when we wanted to bring in physical players to help us change our identity, he was a guy that stood out because of the type of receiver he was in Houston," Munchak said. "We played against him a lot of years, and that's what he was known for. We wanted a receiver (where) that was part of his DNA, his makeup. Unfortunately, we never got a chance to use that.
"He was just a great fit for us because he knew our offense so well. He's been used in the run game, the play-action game so much that it was just a natural fit for us," Munchak continued. "Great guy. It was just disappointing for him and us that we kept thinking it was something more minor than it was. We thought he'd be back by the end of OTAs, then it was, 'Oh, he'll be back by training camp.' He just never really came back from the surgery, and I know he's upset. He's a guy that's in this building every single day. He's around the meetings. It's a shame because he could've been a help to us this year."
HUNTER 'DOING WELL': Munchak said rookie receiver Justin Hunter is "doing well" after experiencing concussion-like symptoms in the game against the Colts.
"(Wednesday)**I think he has one more appointment before he's officially allowed to move forward," Munchak said. "He didn't do anything football-wise with us. He did the stuff that he could do with the trainers to make sure he doesn't have any setbacks. He's done well, so we're assuming he's OK."
SCHWENKE MAKING PROGRESS: Munchak said rookie center Brian Schwenke did individual drills Tuesday and is a "lot better" than he was last week. Schwenke suffered an ankle injury Nov. 10 against Jacksonville.
"Now it's just a matter of how quickly the ankle responds the next three days when he starts doing football activities to see where he's at," Munchak said. "That's one of those things where he can go from starting or not suiting up. He's a guy that, if he's ready to go, you're going to play him. If he's not, you rest him."
SURGERY FOR CAMPBELL: Munchak said Tommie Campbell will have surgery to repair a shoulder injury that's kept him sidelined the past two weeks. Campbell, a reserve cornerback and a top gunner on the special teams' coverage units, was placed on injured reserve Monday when the Titans signed John Skelton to backup Fitzpatrick and Rusty Smith at quarterback.
WILLIAMS 'WEEK-TO-WEEK': Munchak said Damian Williams is improving but is "week-to-week" with a way to go because of a hip injury he suffered returning a punt against Jacksonville. It is likely that Devon Wylie will handle kick and punt return duties at Oakland, Munchak said.
