NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Titans were back on the field on Monday at Saint Thomas Sports Park for their 10th practice of training camp.
Here's a look at what stood out:
- Receiver Devin Ross made some nice plays early in one-on-one drills, catching a deep ball, as well as a diving catch across the middle of the field.
- Safety Kenny Vaccaro practiced in the defense for the first time, and he worked alongside fellow safety Kevin Byard with the first team defense on the opening snap. During the course of practice, Vaccaro and rookie safety Dane Cruikshank worked with the first team unit.
- Vaccaro nearly picked off quarterback Marcus Mariota on a ball thrown deep downfield. Vaccaro beat his right fist into the ground after failing to haul it in.
- Rookie outside linebacker Harold Landry continues to work with the first team defense, with veteran Brian Orakpo sidelined.
- Outside linebacker Aaron Wallace showed up on numerous plays providing pressure, including a nice rush on Mariota early. Wallace later broke up a pass intended for tight end Delanie Walker.
- The offense has made a lot of progress in recent weeks, but the defense ruled the day on Monday.
- Cornerback Logan Ryan had a really nice practice, intercepting Mariota on a ball intended for Walker in team drills. The pass was behind Walker, and went off his hands. Ryan closed on the football, and hauled it in. He made a number of plays on the day.
- The best offensive play of the day was a deep ball from Mariota to receiver Tajae Sharpe, who got behind the defense for a touchdown. Sharpe later made a nice catch across the middle on a ball thrown by quarterback Blaine Gabbert.
- It was another active day from receiver Taywan Taylor, who made a nice catch in traffic and caught a number of balls. He also let a catchable ball escape his grasp, something we haven't seen much in camp.
- Running back Derrick Henry showed up with back-to-back nice plays in team drills. He caught a high pass in traffic, and later busted through the whole and stiff-armed Cruikshank as he closed in on him.
- Defensive back Kalan Reed broke up a Gabbert pass intended for receiver Jordan Veasy. Later, Veasy hauled in a pass from Gabbert.
- Receiver Deontay Burnett walked off slowly after making a nice catch in the middle of the field.
- Running back Dalyn Dawkins showed a nice burst while sprinting down the sideline after a run to his left. A few plays later, running back Akrum Wadley had success running to the right side, and into the open field. Both these backs have had their moments in camp.
- Cornerback Malcolm Butler continues to make plays, and he had a nice breakup on a ball intended for receiver Darius Jennings. Butler recorded an intercepted in the end zone late, but it was on a "Hail Mary" pass where offensive players didn't aggressively go after the football.
- In a red zone period, tight end Tim Semisch and Burnett each caught touchdown passes.
- Tight end Jonnu Smith made a nice diving catch on the sideline on a ball thrown by Mariota.
- Kicker Ryan Succop was 6-of-8 on field goals tries.
- Linebacker Wesley Woodyard continues to have a nice camp. He joined Byard to break up a pass intended for Taylor late in the session.
- Linebacker Nate Palmer was injured in Monday's practice, and taken off the field in a cart.
- Receiver Corey Davis, linebacker Brian Orakpo, linebacker Rashaan Evans, offensive lineman Kevin Pamphile, defensive lineman Bennie Logan, linebacker Sharif Finch, and safety Demontre Hurst did not practice.
Next practice: Tuesday, 9:50-noon at Saint Thomas Sports Park.
