CB Alterraun Verner |
Much of practice was spent brushing up on missed assignments from Saturday's game in Seattle.
Alterraun Verner continues to impress fans in team drills. He got his hands on two straight Vince Young passes, including an interception on a ball intended for Lavelle Hawkins.
Both Tye Hill and Cortland Finnegan were able to participate in practice. While Hill returned to the field and participated in all drills, Cortland Finnegan was limited to individual drills. Fellow cornerback Ryan Mouton was forced to sit practice out due to soreness.
The defense dominated the two-minute drill, stopping two consecutive drives short of the end zone. Jason McCourty ended the drill by making a nice break on a Chris Simms pass, intercepting it right in front of Dominique Edison.
Coach Cecil joined the players in conditioning drills, displaying some athleticism while sprinting from sideline to sideline.
Off the field Q&A with Pete Ittersagen
What is your favorite thing about Nashville?
"Definitely the people. So far they are really welcoming and friendly. It seems like a close knit group of people."
How did you spend your offseason?
"I spent a lot of time with my family and friends. Also I played a lot of golf on courses back home in Chicago."
What are your hobbies off the field?
"I do a lot of things in the community with a local church. I try to give back by investing in the kids. I also love to play pickup basketball whenever there is a game."
What are your plans after football?
"Hopefully to continue to do something that I love to do. With that, hopefully make a difference in people's lives at the same time."
Who was a role model for you growing up?
"My dad and my older brother. Obviously an older brother is someone always to look up to. My dad was someone who I saw live as a Godly man and I really want to live my life in the same way."
Who is your favorite athlete in another sport?
"I'm a big NBA fan. Being from Chicago, I'd have to say Derrick Rose."
If you would be on any reality show, which one would you choose?
"I'd definitely be on The Bachelor. Since I'm single, it might help the process of finding someone to date.
Last movie you saw in theaters?
"Inception. I thought it was good, but not as good as everyone hyped it up to be."
Who is the best player in history at your position?
"I'd probably say Deion Sanders. I grew up watching him play. I also enjoy watching old highlights of Herm Edwards."
Jeff Fisher Quotes
(on his thoughts after looking at the game tape)
Our effort was there. There were no faraway looks by the rookies who came out. They played. They weren't perfect, but they played hard. I was somewhat pleased with the special teams. Some guys stepped up, guys that haven't done it for us before. Mike Rivera, for example got up there, and he did a nice job in a lot of those areas. With the younger guys, we were able to look at the tape and say, 'Here's where we have to improve.'" But when your offense goes down and scores on the first drive and your defense plays the first quarter scoreless, that's kind of the thing you look for on the first preseason game.
(on Jason Jones' ability to help the defense by staying healthy)
He's off to a great start. He's strong and can really be a difference maker inside. He's excited, too, which is good. He's worked very hard to get to this point.
(on if Alterraun Verner seems to be ahead of most rookies)
Yeah, he is. From an instinct standpoint, feel for the game, technique. The one thing at that spot is you need to know where your help is, and he's very much aware of where his help is. And he's doing the little things right, which is good to see.
(on his evaluation of Raheem Brock during Saturday's preseason game)
He was in 18 to 20 (snaps), just like we thought and just what we told him to expect. He did good. He bounced around the run and had some rushes. And for a guy who's been out and had one practice, he's got a good feel for it.
(on the importance of this week's preseason game, knowing that next week will be a short one)
We have a unique week ahead of us. Today, we had a couple sessions. We had a correction session on offense, defense and special teams, where we'd go back and correct the mistakes that took place in the game. And we got competitive and moved the ball in the two-minute (drill). We're all over the place this week. We've got a noon practice tomorrow, a night practice Wednesday. But this is a very, very important week for us. Because as you said, you play Monday. You've got to get it back Tuesday; they rest Tuesday. We've got practice Wednesday to where we can get some things done, and then you're preparing for the next opponent.
