NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Walter Overton, the general manager of LP Field, was inducted into the Nashville Metro Public Schools Hall of Fame on March 13.

Overton was one of three people recognized as a "Distinguished Alumnus" of Nashville's public schools so honored at the luncheon, hosted by the Nashville Public Education Foundation (NPEF). Overton graduated from Pearl High School in 1970 prior to his school merging with another Metro school to become Pearl-Cohn.
Also inducted into that hall of fame were Dr. Steven J. Eskind, Hillwood High Class of 1969 and Robert S. Lipman, Hillwood Class of 1970. The NPEF also recognized Margaret O. Dolan as the Nelson C. Andrews Distinguished Service Honoree.
"It was a very special day and I felt privileged to be honored as a Distinguished Alumnus of Nashville Metro Public Schools," Overton said. "When I looked at the list of past honorees and knowing the impact those individuals have had on this community, it was humbling to know I am joining that select group. I was so thankful to have shared this special occasion with my family, friends and co-workers."
Overton is beginning his eighth year with the Titans. His duties as general manager of LP Field include day-to-day management and event management.
Under his direction, LP Field hosts the CMA Country Music Festival each June and entertained the largest crowds in the history of the event. Additionally, LP Field hosted the largest crowd ever in the state of Tennessee to watch a soccer match when the U.S. Men's National team hosted Trinidad/Tobago in a World Cup Qualifying Match on April 1, 2009.
Overton was familiar with LP Field and the Titans organization after spending his previous five years as the Executive Director of the Nashville Sports Authority, which oversees LP Field and Bridgestone Arena for Nashville's Metro Government.
Prior to joining the Sports Authority in 2001, Overton was the Small & Minority Business Coordinator of Metro Government for four years, directing a department that was charged with involving small businesses in local government procurement contracts. He was also a Metro General Sessions Court probation officer and Criminal Court law clerk/court officer. Overton was subsequently a law clerk with the State Office of Professional Responsibility and a probation officer for the State of Tennessee.
Overton has a long history of service to the community, including board positions with the Rochelle Center, Our Kids, Urban League of Middle Tennessee, the Middle Tennessee Boy Scouts of America and the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the National Football Foundation. In 2011 he was also inducted into the Metro Public Schools Sports Hall of Fame. Overton remains involved in high school athletics, officiating both high school football and basketball games for the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association (TSSAA).
A native Nashvillian, Overton is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he starred as a wide receiver for the football team and earned his law degree from the Nashville School of Law. He and his wife, Laura, have two children, Janean, 25, and Jordan, 23, and reside in Nashville.
