On Oct.6, Titans linebacker Stephen Tulloch and 30 students from Brick Church Middle school took part in the first annual "Tulloch-Smiley Kids Dental Day" held at Nashville's Smiley Dentistry.

This was the opening of weekly visits to be held throughout the month of October to promote healthy oral living. Though this was the first of those month long "Tulloch-Smiley Kids Dental Day" visits held at Smiley Dentistry conducted through the Stephen Tulloch Foundation, there has been a long commitment from both sides to help promote healthy smiles and bodies for the youth in the community. Along with getting free check-ups, the kids were also given bags that had tooth brushes, floss and other dental products that will help them in continuing their healthy living. After the check-ups, all children were re-scheduled to another date to address whatever dental problems they have be it cleanings, fillings etc. Tulloch even extended the program to parents of the students.

When asked how he got involved with Brick Church Middle, a low-income school that serves a lot of the city's underprivileged, he stated, "I had an opportunity last year to meet Principal Chirelle Jefferson and the students and I was very surprised by what she has going on there and how she is turning around the academics there. I decided to dedicate my time to their school and do whatever I can in my power to help these kids."

Though Brick Church is low-income with a majority of the students receiving free or reduced lunch, the school has tremendous community support, parent involvement and credible test scores.

Jefferson added, "Stephen is awesome, and the Tulloch Foundation does great work. Having come from a background similar to our students, he is so willing to give back to our community."

Dr. Kim Smiley, along with her brother Wesley Smiley, who own and operate Smiley Denistry, know how much it means to the children to be able to get an opportunity like the one afforded. The Smiley's and Tulloch have worked tirelessly to get this cause off to a successful start. Their commitment to the community youth has made them strong partners in the fight against bad oral hygiene.

In addition to Tulloch starting this dental partnership, his foundation has hosted youth football camps in Miami, FL, a fundraiser to benefit unprivileged kids to obtain educational tutoring, and support of numerous initiatives dedicated to serving the less fortunate.

To show their support, fellow Titans fullback Ahmard Hall and linebacker Gerald McRath joined in by signing autographs, taking pictures and Tulloch even ordering pizza for the kids once they had finished their appointments.

With the bright smiles on the faces of the Brick Church Middle students, it is clear that he has completed his goals on this day.

Stephen Tulloch Foundation The purpose of the Stephen Tulloch Foundation is to provide underprivileged children the same opportunities as other children. Our goals are to supply them with the essentials to build self esteem and to be able to achieve their goals and unlock their potential.
