CANTON, Ohio -- Last month Chris Johnson and his Tennessee Titans teammates received a private tour of the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the eve of their preseason opener in the annual Hall of Fame Game at Fawcett Stadium in Canton. Johnson and the other players took time to see the many mementos on exhibit that chronicle the great moments, players, and games in National Football League history.
Now, just several weeks later, Johnson's shoes from last Sunday's game have been added to the Hall of Fame's collection. They were immediately placed on display in the Pro Football Today Gallery.
The shoes worn by the second-year runner out of East Carolina during his historic performance in the Titans' Week 2 game against the Houston Texans arrived at the museum on Thursday morning. In that game Johnson became the first player in the 90-year history of the NFL to record a 90-plus yard rushing touchdown, a 50-plus yard rushing touchdown, and a 60-plus yard receiving touchdown in the same game.
He opened the day's scoring on a 57-yard TD run to put Tennessee on top. After Houston tied the game Johnson scored his second touchdown of the first quarter on a 69-yard pass play from quarterback Kerry Collins to again give the Titans the lead. He ran 91 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to close out his memorable day.
Johnson finished the game with 197 yards rushing on 16 carries and had nine catches for 87 yards.
